I know there are a lot of Blue Point fans on this board. DH's folks own a house down in Duck and we talked with them over the weekend about the damage from Irene. The little shopping center where Blue Point is located was pretty severely damaged and most (if not all) of the stores/restaurants there are closed for the time being. I think the Blue Point is planning to re-open soon, but the little Duck Coffee House/Bookstore might be closed for quite awhile.
I love Duck so much and hope it recovers soon!
Re: Blue Point in Duck, NC
For anyone still following this thread, we ate at Blue Point today for lunch and all was well (but they had to old-school our credit card and do the carbon copy rubbing of the numbers method since the phone line for it is still out). They had some obvious new wood on several of their railings and parts of the deck (in the shopping center itself) but everything appeared open on that little strip (but none with credit card working).
The coffee house appeared to be open but we did not go in.
They are doing construction on the road between Corolla and Duck, and Duck itself still had a lot of standing water and debris on the side of the road (but the standing water may have been from Wednesday's thunderstorm).
I think it'll be up and running at 100% in no time.
Where we normally stay, on the other hand, still hasn't allowed residents to return.
From an engineering standpoint, it'll be a very long time since there are five new breaches and it is currently only accessible by boat.
