Treatment for Styes

I currently have an eye stye - saw the dr. yesterday and he gave me an antibiotic prescript I can fill if needed but he told me to try warm compresses for 3-4 days first as that should get rid of it...I really want to avoid the antibiotic as I am still BRing and was curious to see if anyone had other home remedies or herbal things I should try...these things are painful and I look like I got punched in the eye- lovely!

Re: Treatment for Styes

  • empty baby jar with hot water (no lid) put wash cloth over it a few times and secure it with a rubber band let it rest on your eye while laying down... put a towel under your head in case of some drippage. even better do it while you are in a hot bath. GL

  • Thanks- I will try that this weekend.  At work I have just been soaking a washcloth and heating it in the microwave so it stays hot for while...hope that helps-
  • I get them often (are you stressed??  I get mine then) and I always do a warm compress.  They hurt!
  • I saw that they could be caused by stress but there is nothign really stressing me out more than usual...unless lack of sleep counts!
  • I use the warm compress and they have an over the counter ointment called stye (I haven't had one in a few years, I assume they still make it).  That seemed to help as well
