Generational Divide

My new reportee doesn't know how to use a fax machine, and in fact, when I showed it to her, her response was, "Oh, I didn't even know this was the fax machine. I had no idea what this piece of equipment was." This is not someone clueless either, she is a great and capable employee.

I feel old.

Re: Generational Divide

  • lol

People call and ask all the time if we have a fax machine and i'm always like "yeah.....?" and then they're like "oh, I didn't know if you'd gone completely digital."

Dude. We're a church, we're about 50 years behind the times.  We don't even have a color printer yet.

  • Surprise

oh man! that makes me feel old too. i remember the days before regularly e-mailing resumes and going to my friend's department on another floor to fax my resume so my boss wouldn't find out.

  • Confession: I don't know how to use a fax machine. Anytime I've had to fax something for personal reasons, my boss has graciously done it for me since it's in his office. I was never taught how to use one. I do at least know what they look like though!

  • Yikes.  I believe you that it's not her, it's just - yeah, we're old.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • It also is really simple which probably makes someone who doesn't even know what a fax machine seem a little weird.  All you do is stick in the paper and dial a number... I don't think they are going away anytime soon. I'm in my late 20s and I use a fax pretty regularly for my government job as they don't trust email for some documents.
