Is an allowance a red flag?
Looking through listings, some houses have a $xx "anything" allowance. I don't really see any obvious work to be done on some of them.
Is this a red flag or not a big deal? Marketing ploy perhaps?

Re: Is an allowance a red flag?
Not necessarily a red flag. A lot of people will give $$s for flooring allowance, painting, or cosmetic stuff. No use for seller to spend money doing new carpet when someone will just come in and tear it up to put down hardwoods.
It shows sellers are willing to more agreeable to deal with and maybe more willing to negotiate.
I see it as the seller knows their house has issues and doesn't want it to be a dealbreaker for a potential buyer.
Whether it's a red flag depends on what the allowance is for, I guess. I see a lot of listings with a flooring or paint allowance. Those are no big deal, IMO.
Eh. I wanted to offer a flooring allowance simply because I know my carpet has been beaten up with my 2 dogs and several fosters. But I didn't wnt to replace the carpeting, in case the buyer wanted something else.
my ILs are thinking about offering an allowance for granite countertops. Everyone that's gone through their house has said they like it, but wanted nicer countertops. They hope the allowance helps sell the house.
Have you seen my monkey?
