the ceremony in NY right now? We have it on tv here
Re: Anyone watching
The thing that is kind of striking me about the names are the ones that more likely than not weren't Americans (or at least natural born Americans). As an expat it shouldn't surprise me that people of a variety of nationalities work in New York, but for some reason hearing names like Heinrich and Francesco is really hitting home. I guess I never thought about it before.
This seems like the right spot to inject my mini vent:
Let me preface by saying i DO love my H and he is normally a very intelligent man, but ...
He and his brother can be a little on the tin foil hat conspiracy theory side of things. OK ,fine, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but on this day, married to an American, you would think he would be smart enough to shut the eff up and keep it to himself!
I mean of course, the fact that World Trade Center # 7 burned uncontrolled for 10 hours and then collapsed makes it "only the third bldg in history to collapse from fire" REALLY???!!!
Right now I'm trying to figure out who's the dumbest one in the house. The person who could possible believe that or the person who married someone who could possible believe that.
//end vent.
I don't understand this at all. I'm pretty sure that more than three buildings collapsed when Mrs. O'Leary's cow kicked over that lantern in Chicago. I'm also fairly certain that more than three buildings collapsed in the great fire of London. I know for a fact that a sh!tton of buildings collapsed when Dresden was firebombed. So where are these other two buildings coming from?
That's exactly what I'm saying! That # 7 would be third bldg, blah blah is just ridiculous! (the other two would the towers). I guess conspiracy theorist believe that # 7 being on fire and then collapsing, when it wasn't attacked at all and so far from the towers, is proof enough for them that all three bldgs came down because the gov't planted C4 in them.
I swear to god I may put ex-lax in his dinner tomorrow ;-). Or just start fashioning a little tin-foil hat and leave it on the table for him to wear tomorrow.
I feel your pain. My H insists that the moon landing was a hoax even though he has zero evidence to support his theory. What I have yet to distinguish is whether he 100% truly believes that or if he just maintains that position because he knows it gets under my skin.
wow. Couldn't he think of anything better to discuss today? I am sorry you have to listen to that. I totally vote for the tin hat or a discussion of how Elvis is still alive or whatever.
H can honestly believe whatever he wants, I just wish he'd keep this one to himself.
I worked 4 blocks from the White House. I saw the smoke and smelled the jet fuel burning when we were evacuated. But nope, no film footage, must not have really happened. I usually shut the topic down when I ask "well then, my company lost three people on that plane. Where do you think the gov't has them hidden?"
DH also likes to make comments about the moon landing not being real, but I'm not sure if he really thinks that.
Luckily, he's not as stupid as some of his friends in Geneva who like to have "9/11" themed parties. Yeah that's cool.
BTW, DH just read this and said "How would you feel if I wrote in forums that you believe there's no Heidi?!" hahaha.
"9/11" themed parties? I just got physically sick when I read that. I am shaking.
ktk, please tell your husband that, on this subject, I don't give a rats azz how my H feels about the forums knowing. If you are going to make a blatantly dubazz statement like "only three bldgs in history blah blah" you need to own that shyte.
What on earth is a '9/11' themed party? I can't even imagine. I am not American, but I can still remember exactly where I was that day that it happened and watching it on the TV and the surreal feeling. I watched from South Africa in tears, and still can't watch much of it on TV now without crying, so I can't even imagine what a '9/11' party is or how insensitive that must be to the American people.
Amrsin09,
This was a joke, to make some people smile, It was in response to him reading the comment I made about him not believing in the moon landing, nothing to do with your comments about your husband. He didn't even read past what I wrote.
I'm sorry if you found it offensive. I don't what your problem with me is, as I've never said anything to offend you.
I went to one of these parties by mistake when I first moved here in 2008. A few other au pair friends of mine and I went thinking it was just a university party. When we got there, we found out all the university students thought it would be hilarious to have a party in the theme of 9/11 (It was September 12, 2008). They had made the twin towers of beers cans and knocked them over at some point during the party (before we were there), had posters of women wearing burkhas hanging up, and I remember a few George Bush masks.
I didn't know the other girls I went with very well since we had all just moved to Switzerland to be au pairs, but one of them was an American but very anti-America and believed the US government was behind 9/11 and thought the party was hilarious. We didn't remain friends for very long.
That is exactly what is wrong with the world today - how can you celebrate death? It makes me sick. I don't care what your politics are, how you feel about the Government, American or otherwise, 3000 people died - it's unbelievable.
Yeah, that's what I said at the party, whatever your beliefs are, it's completely disrespectful. I didn't stay very long there.
oh wow. I was wondering what on earth a 9/11 party would be.sick
