Not sure how to proceed...teachers come in!
I have been a special ed teacher for the past couple of years. All of my positions except for one have been long term substitute positions ( maternity leave replacements). When I was doing those positions, all of the women came back so when I was looking for a new position it was an easy explanation in cover letters and interviews as to why I was looking for a new position. Now, my current job is in the field, but not a teaching job, so I am looking to leave because it's not my dream job and also the pay is crappy. Usually when I am looking for a new job, I write in my CL I am doing xyz job which ends on xyz date. Now I don't have a reason to put as to why I am leaving my job. I don't want administrators to be skeptical as why I am leaving... Also, when I apply to jobs I usually include copies of my reference letters. I figure this an introduction to me. It makes me stand out more than just a person on a piece of paper. Do you think this a good idea?
Re: Not sure how to proceed...teachers come in!
I think there's nothing odd about writing you are in a non certified position and would like to move into your desired field. I think this is pretty common. We've had tons of budget cuts, which obviously everyone has. To save money we've had a lot of certified positions reclassified as non certified. Ie. replace one reading teacher with two reading tutors. Almost universally these tutors are certified, but aren't in a position that requires it.
My DH is a certified English teacher, but works currently as a special ed tutor -- a step between para and certified teacher. He's applied for teaching jobs and its totally understood he wants to move into his certified area.
Also, anytime I've applied for a teaching job (it has been 8 years though) they've required that I submit my reference letters. So totally normal IMO.
