Embarrassing question...
I got a ticket last month for talking on my cell phone while driving, so I'm thinking about doing the online traffic school thing to get the point off of my license. Has anyone done this and does anyone have any recommendations for a site that's easy to navigate, won't take too long and doesn't cost too much? A lot to ask, I know, right?

Usually the court will give you a list of optional courses you can take...Some are approved and some aren't so I wouldn't want to give you wrong info. Plus I've gotten lucky (knock on wood) that I haven't had a ticket in a long time. My info would be outdated!!
Hope you find something easy-The last time I did it was an online comedy class and it was pretty easy and not too boring.
Ditto tory. I did this years ago and don't even remember through which site. But I think the county/court can provide you with a list of approved web sites if they allow online traffic school. Not all counties do.
I remember my experience being fairly painless. It was about an hour of silly questions and a pretty easy test at the end.
I did this about 2 years ago after a speeding ticket. However, I don't know if it was just the "school" I chose, or what, but it took me much longer than an hour. The site had a minimum time limit that you had to spend on each page before you could move on. So, while I could read the information fairly quickly, I spent a lot of time waiting for the time to run out so that I could move on to the next page. It probably took me 4+ hrs to complete the course.
In Santa Clara there's only one company you can use. The program is a pain because it forces you to stay on each page for a set amount of time and you can't move on until the timer's up (I read quickly so I'm forced to sit and wait 6-10 seconds on each page.) I think it's still better than doing it in person because you don't have to go anywhere and you can break it up and not do it all at once.
I would make sure to take school in one way or the other rather than the point. DH ran into a poll and I encouraged him to report it and get it fixed (because that's what insurance is for) and his rate went WAY up (like 1/3 higher this year than last) and it's just because of that accident.
Years ago, I went to an in-person school in San Diego and it was a full 8 hour day and while the guy tried to lighten things up, it was boring!
The insurance company I work for doesn't charge for cell phone violations...it's the DMV point you would need to worry about. These are separate/diff from insurance points.
I thought you couldn't be pulled over just for violating the no-talking-on-the-cell-while-driving law? i.e., you had to be pulled over for some other violation and they could choose to cite you for the phone violation as well, but not for that alone?

My ticket was in Alameda County. My coworker had a similar experience in San Mateo County. I'm guessing they've just changed the online experience across the board.

I got cited for "text while driving" when I was looking down at my work blackberry; the officer was nice about it and just gave me a citation/fix it for it. It cost me $170 though.

No worries, K! I was just getting onto the lower deck of the Bay Bridge and CHP pulls up next to me in the breakdown lane. I turn around, still with the phone up to my ear, and there he is. He followed me all the way to TI, then pulled me over. Oops!
My new car has built-in bluetooth, so hopefully this won't happen again. DH was totally pissed because the ticket was $160.
The SF Superior Court website has a list of like, 50 traffic school sites to pick from. That's way too many for me to go through and see what works, hence my question to you all.
