How was everyone's weekend? What did you do and eat that was memorable? Did you do anything in particular to mark the 9/11 anniversary?
Re: Weekend recap?
My weekend was good and bad. We went to a wedding on Saturday that was really awesome with a baseball theme. They even had ballpark inspired food that was good.
The bad was my 17 month old nephew who decided to scream at the top of his lungs during the middle of the night and several times during the day. We were all staying with DH's grandma so there was no way to escape the noise. Thanks to him, I am now a zombie at work today. It's a good thing he is cute and easy to forgive!
We had a pretty good weekend. Some friends from the Bay Area are here visiting with us. They arrived on Saturday night and we went out for some Greek food. Yesterday we spent the day wandering around the downtown Boston area and ate at a local seafood restaurant called Atlantic Fish Co. I've been wanting to try it for a while and everything was so good. Between the four of us we had cod, sea bass, swordfish, and monkfish...it was all delicious!
Didn't do anything in particular regarding 9/11. I started watching some of the historical footage in the morning but then it was time to entertain our guests so that was about it.
My weekend was pretty OK. I had a ton of homework and still do actually. Remind me to not take 7 classes again, ok?
My aunt is in town because my grandmother is having 2 major spine surgeries this week, so she and my mom will be helping my grandpa take care of her for the next 2 weeks and then it is just my mom and grandpa (an us of course too).
I actually started a blog challenge, you can click my link in siggy and read about why I chose yesterday to start it, etc.

Yikes girl! That's crazy. Don't do it again
We went to the Gilroy outlets on Saturday, and then I spent most of the rest of the day lesson planning and otherwise prepping. Yesterday we went to church, did chores around the house, and I taught for an hour in the afternoon. Then we went to H's parents' house for dinner and to show them our wedding video. We didn't really do anything to mark 9/11.

Not too much but the highlight was a service my church held in honor of 9/11. It's a Methodist church that I don't regularly attend, but after yesterday, it confirmed that I'm glad to be a part of it. Every year on 9/11 they hold an interfaith service with several of places of worship in the area-a Mosque, a few Jewish Temples, a few different Christian based churches, and a few college campus ministry groups. They had people speak that represented everyone, from a rabbi to a Saudi exchange student who must have been about 9 or 10 on 9/11.
It was really cool, had a better turnout than I expected and I was glad that everyone can put aside their differences for a night and wish they could do that more often. It's kind of crazy to see a Jewish person sitting in front of a big cross...not something you see every day.
I'm glad I am part of such an open minded church....they're pretty rare.

There's a lot of Methodist churches that are pretty progressive. Several in the Fresno area make a point of inviting gays, etc. into their congregations.
Anyway, it was a low-key weekend for us. Went out to dinner with dh Friday, saw The Help (so good!) on Saturday and stayed in and baked on Sunday.
That's exactly why I started going there! I did quite a bit of research into what church to attend and glad I chose this one for this reason (there are more conversative branches of Methodist, as there are many other branches of Christianity, so it was important to me to make sure they were socially liberal). I know another church in the area did something similar...but I don't think nearly enough places have done it.
The United Methodist Church. They are the ones with the "open doors, open hearts, open minds" policy and as a whole have made the choice to be behind openess regardless of race, sexual preference, gender, or other affiliations.
There are a small handful of UMC's that are not part of the nationwide OD OP OM policy, but they are super few and far between and you will know them really fast just looking at their websites.
(There are also free methodist, methodists, etc etc and these do not have a nationwide policy for this and are on a singular church's vote based choice only).
I am a UMC'er and have spent ample time working for them and was part of the campagin to get the nationwide policy almost 10 years ago now. It was an amazing thing to be a part of.

I'm a part of the United Church of Christ (sometimes called Congregational on the west coast) and most of them are "open and affirming" too. I wish more people, particularly young people, knew about churches like these!
