What did you do with your old cd's?

H and I have over 300 cd's.  Most of them are ones that we bought before iTunes came along, but we do have a few newer ones that we've bought.  Anyway... we had a yardsale this weekend and decided to put our cd's out to see if anyone wanted to buy some.  A guy came by and said that he'd take them all for 1.50 each.  Which comes up to about $500 that he'd give us for all of them.  He said that he sales them online.  The $500 is a nice chunck of change back on them, but it makes me sad to know that it's really 1.50 each and we spent at least $10-$15 on most of them.  I guess the music just makes me nostalgic.... lol

So WWYD?  Sell them?  Has anyone tried to sale old CD's online?  We told him we wanted to make sure we have all of them stored on the computer before we let them go.

Re: What did you do with your old cd's?

  • I have all of mine in a black cd holder/book type thing.  I kept the discs and the liner notes, but tossed the jewel cases. This way they aren't taking up too much space.  The ones that are box sets I've kept intact (lots of operas and "complete symphonies of....." )  I'll probably always keep them just in case something happens to my hard drive and I lose all the stuff on the computer.  I also like reading the liner notes once in a while as well.

ETA: Because I have a lot of cds, I have 3 black caselogic holders/books.

  • Sell em. I wouldn't think twice about it. If something isn't backed up, download it. $500 is a nice chunk of change!
  • mine are in our tv stand drawer in the basement. i rarely listen to them since most of the newer stuff i bought off itunes. it's sad though i was so insane over music growing up and now i hardly listen to it. anyway i wpuld probably take the 500 and have him sell them (500 at onc is better than $5 in drips and drabs not to mention having to ship them out to people...if you were thinking of selling them yourselves). i wish i had any offer like that because i am in major purge mode.

  • Mine were stolen from my car so I unfortunatly had nothing to do with them. A few I still have in my car for music I don't have on my itunes.

  • Yea, the more I think about it I think selling them is best.  $500 is much better than them sitting on a shelf taking up space.  Everything is on the computer and backed up.  Thanks for your input!
  • I think the money sounds good. I still listen to some of mine and the rest are stored in a box.

  • I have no idea where mine are. Under a bed somewhere? Given away? Sold at one of those sell your cd stores?? I honestly have no idea and I must not miss them! I'd gladly give them up for $500 if I did still have them.
