Those who have been to (or are currently living in) England!

So, Phil and I are hoping to make it out in the next year to visit England and do a bit of a road trip. We have two must-stops: London (to see his brother - and I just love the place) and Formby (to see his parents), which is just outside Liverpool. So, we have to make it north. Any suggestions of what we should see or do along the way?

Re: Those who have been to (or are currently living in) England!

  • That sounds like so much fun! All I can think is I would want to eat at some of the restaurants I've seen on Gordan Ramsay's F word or his Best Restaurant show. I'm a sucker for food.

Also depending on what time of year hanging around the plaza's and parks that people come together for the Olympics is a cool experience even if you aren't going to any of the events. The sense of togetherness is really amazing.

  • So you'll be driving up to Liverpool?  I think there are so many options! While not quite on the way, Bath is great (although I think you've been there).  You could also stop in Oxford for the colleges, Stratford-upon Avon for the home of Shakespeare, and Lower Slaughter is a pretty village in the Cotswolds (although I'm sure there are a lot of other places to go in the Cotswolds).

York is on our list of places to go, so that could be an option although it's more north east of Liverpool.  Also if you want to go further north, the Lake District would be nice to go to for a few days.  Nearer to Liverpool, I've also heard that Chester is nice, but I don't know much about it.

And of course, in London, you'll have to see me Wink

  • I would LOVE to see you! That would be so much fun!

We've been to both York and Chester on our last trip in 2006... both were really lovely! The Lake District is definitely in the running too... maybe Northumbira too. It's the bits in between that we're having trouble focusing in on. I'd like to do Stratford, he's not interested. Bah!

So, maybe we'll drive up through Wales. Stick out tongue

  • Yay!  Keep me posted on your plans.

I've heard Snowdonia is beautiful.  I'd love to spend some time int Wales, we just haven't had a chance yet.  I'll also ask around my office to see if there's some little known treasures on the way to Liverpool that they would recommend.
