any suggestions for comforting baby with really bad diaper rash other than steroid creams or butt paste?

Does the baking soda in the bath thing really work?
Re: diaper rash remedies
S had diaper rash last weekend and I battled it for 3 days using CJs creme.
Then with the thanks to Jess at Top 2 Bottom, I went out on Monday purchased tea tree oil washed all our cloth diapers with 6 drops of that and then used Eco Sprout Diaper Creme (it was a tin sample) and his butt was cleared 90% the next day.
We thought it could have been yeast too since I guess that is going around.
So that is my current recommendation. Eco Sprout.
I'm assuming you use disposables, right?
Aquafor is generally what works on my daughter. CJ's diaper cream comes in a close second..
I'm an Aquaphor lover as well.
