Is it unreasonable to ask the pet sitter to change the litter?

Martin and I will be going away for 18 days, we will be having a pet sitter come once a day to care for them.

The little monsters have 3 litter boxes scattered around the house

Usually we scoop the litter at least 2x a day and clean the boxes completely once a week.

Do you think it is unreasonable to ask the pet sitter to change the litter in the three boxes 1/2 way through? I don't want the boxes to get too dirty...

Also, what is a reasonable tip for that time period? TIA!

Re: Is it unreasonable to ask the pet sitter to change the litter?

  • Not at all. I think cat sitters usuallt change litter/scoop. Is this a company? For a company I'd tip 50 for that long for a private one man job no tip since they'll get the full amount.
  • I've never used a pet sitter so I'm not sure about the tip but I'd say as a cat pet sitter, he/she should be prepared to change litter.

  • I would definitely ask them to over that long of a trip!  And they should expect it for that long of a trip.

I don't tip on my petsitter's daily rate but I usually bring her a gift. (she's a neighbor, not a pro service that I hired)
