Any Arrested Development fans watch Modern Family?
I am only a few episodes into season 1, but I think Modern Family is a cheap version of Arrested Development.
Evidence: Phil was a magician in high school. Gob founded the Alliance of Magicians. In the first episode, multiple people say, "Come on!" Gob invented this phrase. Maybe I'm reading too much into it due to my undying love for all things Bluth.
Thoughts?

Yes, you are. How is it cheap? I like both shows. I just don't get how MF is cheap. What is AD then - expensive?

It's like a knock-off version of the original.
Ah. No, I don't really see it. Both have their merits. AD was better, but it was better than most other shows. lol.

Well, I'm only about 5 episodes in, so what do I know
Into Modern Family? Yeah, that could explain it. I think you'll see that it's good in its own right after watching more.

Eh, I guess there are some similarities, but I definitely don't think it's a knock off or anything. It's a single camera sitcom, that's in mockumentary style format, but I think there quite a few shows like that these days.
I liked AD better, but I love Modern Family too.

I feel like a lot of comedies these days are knock-offs of AD. The documentary style format in particular (The Office, Parks and Rec, MF, etc). I also think those shows are all funny, so I'm a fan.
The world just wasn't ready for AD and its cast of nearly-nudes, magicians and the like.
I feel the same way. I thought MF was really awesome when it started, but I think lately, especially in the second season, it's become meh for me. They rely way too much "wacky misunderstandings."
AD pushed the envelope very far in its jokes. They didnt really know how people would feel about the nearly-nude, etc.
Modern Family is pretty normal for a sitcom. It is hilarious. I prefer it to AD. (flame away)
Also, Modern Family is about all the adults and kids whereas I found AD didnt spend too much time with the kids.
I don't think it's that similar. At some point, TV shows are going to run out of plots and traits for their characters that haven't already been used.
I can't tell you how many times I've been watching a show and thought, "they did this exact plot on Golden Girls."
Agreed, Arrested Development is kind of overrated. I love Modern Family though, it's way more "smart" than AD ever was.
