WR: Just Venting

It's been a tough day. I cried three times at work. I'm tearing up a bit now but I'm enjoying a rye porter beer so that's helping a bit. :-)

1. One of my favorite young mamas found out her fiance is getting deported. :-(  He came to the United States  with his parents when he was 13. He's 22 now. He got picked up on Thursday and was taken in for driving without a license. They found out he wasn't a citizen so they sent him to immigration enforcement. He called her today and told her he was being sent back to Guatamala. She is a mess. She was sobbing in my office and I just started sobbing with her. It was terrible. I can't even imagine how she feels. It jsut doesn't seem fair.

2. A young mom showed up to group tonight and informed me that she was bascially homeless because she left her boyfriend because he was abusive. She had all of her stuff in her truck and was prepared to sleep in it. Luckily, we were able to find a shelter that had an open spot. She's 6 months pregnant.

Re: WR: Just Venting

  • Ugh, both of those situations are just awful.  :(  It's so hard being in a line of work where you hear a lot of distressing things on a daily basis-- it can be so hard to switch gears after getting home.  I really, truly know how difficult that is.

Prayers are with your girls. :(

While I imagine what she is going through is extremely difficult and I hope she gets back on her feet soon, I have to say that I'm proud (and I don't even know her!) that she stood up for herself and removed herself from a bad situation! Too many times you see girls that just stay.

That's what a I told her! I honestly don't think she'll go back. And, we got her into a really nice place jsut for young moms.

  • I'm so sorry.  I don't know what to say, except offer some words of encouragement to keep going.  You are such a gift to these girls- the fact that you share in their pain and are willing to go above and beyond to help is such a source of comfort and strength for them.  You are doing admirable work.  A lot of us lament the sadness and hardship that surrounds us, but you are among those doing something about it.  I will be thinking about both of these girls and I wish the best for them.

I want to second this.  What horrible situations for both girls to find themselves in, but how great for them that there are people like you whom are so willing to not only help them, but to really take to heart their stories.  I'm sure it's unspeakably tough to work so closely with these types of heartbreaking situations, but always remember that you're doing hero's work.  Tons of thoughts & prayers to both girls.
