What do y'all know about malware on smartphones?

My sister may have some kind of malware on her new phone.  She is not very good at computer stuff, so I'm trying to do a little research for her, but I'm finding only vague reports about how there are increasing numbers of incidents.  If anyone knows anything about either what's out there, or how to fix it, I would appreciate the help!  I'm going to keep looking though.

That's how I feel about Malware in general.

Apparently it's usually an issue with shady apps, which is highly unlikely on an iPhone (unless it's been jailbroken or whatever you call it).  I think most people know how to stay away from apps that aren't from trusted sources, but my sister probably didn't think it would be an issue.
