QOTD #1

I know it's early, but it's way too quiet around here...

Do you cheer for a football team?  If so what team and why?  (Most of the local teams won this week, so I feel like this is a safe question today!)

Re: QOTD #1

  • I went to UofM, so I'm definitely a Michigan football fan.  This weeks game was awesome!  I watched the game at a bar on campus this week!  It was so much fun!!!

ETA: I also cheer for Texas.  My brother goes to UT in Austin and I feel like I should support him.  Plus, they rarely play any teams in our conference, so I feel like UofM and Texas are pretty mutually exclusive when it comes to games.

And... I could really care less about professional football Smile

  • When it comes to college I cheer for U of M (my brother is a proud graduate and my family has always been U of M fans despite the fact that before my brother all my uncles had gone to State), Michigan State (I work across the street from there and feel the need to support them Smile though when they play eachother I have to go with Michigan), and Texas A&M (Im from Texas, so its my 'home' team).

In the NFL I stand by the Lions despite how poorly they may play at time, but Im a bigger Patriots fan and have been since Brady went there.  Ive followed him since his Michigan days.

  • I'm a gigantic Michigan fan.  DH thinks I'm a little weird.

I would like the Lions to do well, and usually have the games on, even if I'm not actively watching them.  I've always cheered for Green Bay, though.  It's never been a big deal, since the lions sucked so bad, but if both teams were good, I'm not sure which one I'd root for over the other.

  • Nope.  Despite being a huge jock in high school, I have always much preferred to play sports rather than watch them.  Neither DH nor I follow sports at all.....it is actually one of the things that I cherish most about him -- no Sundays wasted watching football, lol.  :o)  (I still enjoy going to a game in person once in a while, but other than the super bowl, would never purposely turn the TV to a game.)
  • Nope.  We aren't really into sports that much.

  • I am a huge MSU fan.  DH is from Indiana and is a huge Notre Dame fan so I root for them when they aren't playing MSU.

As for professional football, we root for the Indianapolis Colts.  It may be an interesting season for them this year.  Game one on Sunday was a disaster!

  • I am a huge MSU fan, and so is DH. It's funny when we first dating he was a Michigan fan, but I somehow managed to convert him! Now it seems weird that he was ever a u of m fan because he's so into State. We watch all the games, I love college football! And we are big into State basketball too. Don't really care about pro sports though!

    Whoop to this!

I'm butting in from Houston since I'm trying to get moved up there!  Right now for college teams it's just Texas A&M, but I'm sure that will change once I get up there (BF went to Western).  NFL is the Texans and now the Lions (particularly on October 2 when they play the Cowboys!)

  • I grew up rooting for Michigan. My dad is a huge fan, so that just kind of rubbed off on me. So, I root for the Wolverines and also Central (when the games are on TV). DH is a huge MSU fan, so really I root for Michigan just to get his blood boiling :) Both DH and I root for the Lions.
  • we don't really watch college sports at our house, but if there is a big UofM or MSU game on, we may turn it on just to see the action. i'm not partial to either of them so we root for both of them because they are local (except for when they play each other, lol).

We watch the Lions every week, even in the years when they were bad, we still root for them...again because they are local.

My favorite NFL team is the Ravens, i'm a Ray Lewis fan so I watch it for him, lol.

  • College:  MSU

Pro:  Vikings and Lions.  Unless they are playing each other and then it's only the Vikings.  I grew up in Minnesota and will never not cheer for my Vikes :)

  • No watch sometimes but no favorite team.
  • I cheer for the Lions because of H - he's a diehard lions fan and loves football. That's about it for football - I really never cared for it before dating H and now I only watch it with him.

  • Not one specific team, just whatever Michigan team is playing.
"You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness."
  • I don't really cheer for any teams in particular.  I always kinda' hope that the Lions will make a turnaround and start to be good.  DH likes football, but isn't obsessed or anything.  I really just catch bits and pieces of games here and there.

  • I've never been into pro football, but I LOVE Michigan football!

I grew up a U of M fan because my mom went there.  I'm pretty sure she brainwashed me to be a Wolverine, because I always wanted to go to college there.  I got really into football in about 7th grade and started watching every game.  I only applied to 2 colleges, and accepted Michigan as soon as I got in.  So now I cheer for them also because I'm an alumni, but it really started long before that!

  • Our house bleeds Maize and Blue, you would think my H is part of the team the way he acts.

I would rather watch NFL and always cheer for the Lions...I do like watching the Steelers too but only because I think Ben Roethlisberger is super cute...

  • I've grown up a Michigan fan.  My #1 loyalty is to WMU since that's where I went to school.  DH is a MSU fan since he started his Masters there.

As for the pros, we're both Chicago Bears fans.  I just remember seeing them on the tv in the 80's more than the Lions, so I've just always rooted for them.  DH is from the Chicago area, so he was very happy to find a wife who already was a Bears fan!
