Need Help.

I just won tickets to a concert but the catch is it this Thursday in New York City. I can get the time off but what would be the best way to get there and can I use the same form of transportation to get back?

Re: Need Help.

  • My cousin lives in NYC and every time she comes down here, she takes the train. She doesn't own a car as she is in the city. I wish I had more info for you but she makes it sound like that is the easiest option.

  • I like Amtrak for getting to NYC. I've been on one too many buses to NYC that have broken down.  I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend. The bus will be much cheaper.

  • Will there be a bus running late enough from me to come home the same night. I have the hardest time spending money on a hotel just so I can sleep for 5 or 6 hours before I leave. I rather skip that part.

  • I like the train.

Train or the Chinatown buses pretty much run around the clock.  Might wait a bit longer very late at night, but there will be another train or bus.

You could check the bus schedules...

Genius input! There are many different bus systems that run from here to New York. I will clarify the question for you. Of the many bus systems that run from here to New York do any of them run in the middle of the night?

    Yes

My sis & BIL live in NYC and they just took the train over the weekend. I'm sure it's faster than the bus and probably more reliable, though more expensive.

  • Congrats!  What concert?

If I were you, I'd drive up to NJ, someplace right outside of the city, and then bus in to the city.  My SIL is from Teaneck so that's where we always head and it takes about 25 minutes on the bus to get to the city.

  • As far as I know the last trains are usually around 9p.m. and I think the buses average the same. You might have to spend the night.
  • A quick look at Greyhound shows the last buses around 8:00/8:30.  Same with BoltBus.

Well FFS, you're asking a message board to do what 15 minutes of Google searching could tell you. I get asking for opinions on doctors, restaurants, etc. - stuff that's valuable from friends/acquaintances. But simple fact-checking? Good grief.

Teaneck to NYC and then NYC to Teaneck...seems as though they have late service too.  Bus drop off/pick up is at the terminal...not sure if that's close to where you need to be.  But there are stops along in Teaneck that are "neighborhoods" and you won't have to pay.  If you want to email me (trishspringer@yahoo.com), I can tell you my SIL's parent's area/street name.

  • i would take the amtrak.  it runs fairly late but also has early morning departures, like 3am, if you can stay up that late.

megabus leaves NYC at 11 pm

I saw that but I think I might be pushing it. I need to also figure out where the pick up is at in comparison to the concert venue. Doors open at 7pm. The concert venue's website is blocked at work so I will have to check more details when I get home. The band is Staind. Their new album came out today and it is insane. I like heavy rock so I am not sure how many can relate but I use to cover my notebooks with pictures of this band. My DH was just excited for their new album, so this was a total surprise!

The thought has crossed my mind.

  • I thought Megabus had a later bus, I saw KISS in NYC and ate/had a beer afterwards and still had to wait for the last bus...I want to say it left at 1:00 am but that might have been a weekend

You're welcome!  And by not paying I meant you wouldn't have to pay to park...and the neighborhood seems safe too...any time we've been up there we've never had a problem.  It's about a 3.5 hour drive from Baltimore up there.
