how to stop the dessert habit?
other than straight up will power.
i have about 8-10lbs i would like to lose since having little man, but i am apprehensive about actually dieting while breastfeeding. i eat pretty well, i walk at least 3 miles/day, i have added in some toning exercises in the morning and for now that is all i can do with my schedule and dh's schedule. i am hoping to add some gym time in shortly.
i think my biggest downfall is that i NEED something sweet after lunch and after dinner. i just ate a great greek salad with chicken, i am pretty much full, but i am really having a hard time not hitting up the vending machine for something sweet. any ideas for substitutes? i am working on the willpower but when i cave i will then house 6 oreos since i stopped myself previously....

I drink a lot of chocolate milk...I get those individual packs (w/ straws) from Trader Joe's and I have one of those pretty much everyday. Sometimes I get the soy chocolate milk ones.
I'm bad, too, sometimes. The past few nights, DH and I have been having ice cream with hot fudge melted on it. Eeek!
I have 3 things that I used to let myself have on a limited basis that fell within my GD confines, one of which I still eat.
-90 calorie chocolate fiber one bars with a glass of milk. I can still have the F1 bars, but they, um... run right through you. Milk is now a no go for me as it makes my numbers sky rocket.
-skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. the strawberry shortcake ones taste EXACTLY like the old strawberry shortcake good humour bars. soooo good and only about 140 calories.
-sugar free jello pudding or the jellow temptations with reddi whip. this one I very rarely ate because i try to steer clear of artificial sweeteners. however the reddi whip is only 5-10 calories.
How about the mini bite-size candy bars? I find I am much better with portion control when things are individually wrapped. Keep them in a drawer in the fridge so they aren't staring at you every time you open the fridge.
Or fruit? I am a big fan of apple slices with a teeny tiny smear of nutella or pb.
I don't have much of a sweet tooth...so if you have any tips on how to stop eating chips, I'm all ears
I have this problem. At work I would have packets of the sugar free hot chocolate in my desk. I would pack 1 hershey kiss, if I brought the whole bag I would snack on them all day. One of the Planter's nut mixes has a few chocolate covered nuts in the mix so I would snack on a 1/4 cup of those since there was only a few pieces of chocolate. Also tootsie rolls and jelly beans are low in calories if you only have a few.
I have found that if I stop cold turkey it's really hard but the craving will go away. Once I start eating sweets again, it's back in full force

For work (after lunch need) I stash sugar free life saver candies (all varieties are good but I really like the sorbet flavors) and mints. Also used to shove some sugar free gum in, that usually helped until my lunch settled in and my brain realized I was full.
At home, (after dinner need), sugar free jellos and puddings with nonfat cool whip and whip cream; skinny cow products; fat free ice cream/yogurts; York peppermint patties.
I guess what I'm getting it at is that I didn't want to stop the habit, I wanted to enjoy it but not wear it.
I have to admit, Fiber One brownies with some whip cream really aren't that horrible. Of course, I'm eating them now for different reasons (thanks to the lovely side effects of pregnancy without being allowed to have caffeine).
I recently bought 100 calorie packs of brownies and they were quite good. Granted, there were probably 8 little ones in the package, but they can definetly hit the spot.
Our house has varying willpower levels. mr erbur will snack and snack if he knows it is in the house--so, I'm not "allowed" to buy sweets or snacks. I will wait to enjoy something and look forward to savoring it.
I'm with esyn, chocolate milk is my go-to--Hershey's makes special dark syrup now...toss that in some skim milk... I love it!
I've recently found the Jello temptations... oh my. They made some new flavors and the lemon meringue one is to die for. I always keep sugar free pudding in the house and that is perfect for an after-dinner taste of something sweet.
And 0602 is right about those strawberry shortcake skinny cow bars. My shop rite doesn't carry them and I cry a little bit every time I'm there. I have to drive over to acme specifically for them.
Smoothies are great too...
This would make me so happy! They were my favorite ice cream truck choice growing up. Yum.
