PW another poll re: pets. Do you worry about them?

The kid poll makes me think of my pets as well. I don't know if its because I've had a couple special needs pets or what, but sometimes I have minor freak outs that I'm going to come home and one of my pets will be dead. I worried about this with Manny terribly. I was always so worried he would have a seizure while we were at work and die. I always worried about Salty too because he was so high strung. I was always worried he would hurt himself some way. I also had a friend who's boxer killed their dachshund while they were at work. It was a major freak incident, but that put my worry into high drive for a while. Cori is so chill that he hasn't given much to worry about though.

Re: PW another poll re: pets. Do you worry about them?

  • I worry about our pets but not in anxiety causing way. Everytime I give them their flea meds before I leave for work I worry they might have a reaction to it while I'm gone. There has never been an issue with flea meds so it's more of a passing thought. When we go on vacation I worry that Amsterdam isn't having fun at the boarder and I worry the kitties, MJ and Aerith are sad at home by themselves with the exception of the once per day visit from our neighbor.

  • At this stage in Lex's life--he's 5--no, I don't worry about that, really. But I've had much older cats and dogs and did worry about it once they hit 14 or so.
  • I worry about EVERYTHING with the dogs.

One of my biggest worries is them escaping the backyard or getting out the front door. I am a freak about making sure they're secure before we open the door.

Last night I found a weird rash spot on Barney's chest and this morning it was a way worse rash all over his chest, arms and legs. The earliest the vet could see him was 2:30 and I spent from 8 this morning until 2:10 when I got home from work absolutely positive I would come home to find Barney dead from what was certainly the bubonic plague or something equally deadly.

When our house was broken into and I was waiting in my car for an hour for the police to get there I was again positive that whoever had broken in had killed the dogs or let them escape.

Whenever we go on vacation, I worry about them escaping from my parents' house.

    Yeah, it's bad.

  • I worry about Tini jumping through a window (again) when we're not home.

I worry about someone breaking into my house and killing my dogs because they are so loud.

I worry about them getting cancer.

I worry about Tonka getting run over (if you are the slightest bit not careful he runs into the street when you open the front door).

  • I always worried about an illness that would take him from us entirely too soon. Now I wonder when my mental state will ever be secure enough with that issue to get another dog and not freak the eff out over every bump or weird symptom. This is especially concerning because I'd like the same breed and they are more susceptible to the kind of cancer he had.

  • I could NOT ever use the crockpot when DH and I were at work with the dogs home. I also was so paranoid every morning that I left my straightener on. I finally had to buy one that had an auto shut off after 30 minutes. I also worry (with reason!) when I leave them with the IL's... I don't worry about their health though, they've all been very healthy, knock on wood!

  • I don't think I imagine/create issues -- I don't worry about finding him dead if he's not showing any signs of poor health -- but I 110% freak the eff out over the littlest things. I was on the phone with Courtney after my dog either swallowed or maybe just licked a frog.... And was looking up the dosage of peroxide to induce vomitting. Until last weekend I carried the remnants of the kong (of which C ate the top portion) in my purse, because I was certain that at any moment it would become a disaster, and I would be able to pull out the remnants at the emergency vet to indicate the size that had been eaten (He amazingly threw it up last weekend, so I was able to remove it. lol).

Okay, these 2 are a million percent justified!!

And now we know the reason for the pathetic vet pic on facebook. Is he ok?

  • Yeah, he's fine. Thankfully it was not the plague. The vet said it was probably an allergic reaction to a bug bite/sting or he got into something in the yard (probably not that because we're always with them and watching them when they're outside). So he got a shot of prednisone (sp?) and a benedryl and he's even more pathetic and drowsy now.
  • I worry that someone will break in our house and kill or hurt Toby. I worry about coming home to find him dead. I am super anal about what he eats and now worry everytime DS gives him food.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • I worry everyday.  I think Bowzer is going to pull one day and pop his leash, I worry someone is going to break in and let the cat out or kill/hurt my dog.  I also freak every time maintenance or the bug man comes in because I don't want to cat to get out and I don't want the bug spray to kill them.

I almost cried the other night because I realized that Bowzer and Elliott are only a year apart and we're going to lose them around the same time and I don't know how i'll be able to get time off from work (in 10+ years) to deal with it because my boss can be a jerk.

    Welcome to my mind.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that's worries about timing of pet's deaths. It's not like we have control over it, but losing two pets close together would be devastating.

  • I made DH get an alarm installed in our house that has a fire detector as well cause I'm paranoid about our dogs.

Kayne stays in his crate all day because it's safer in there for him if he has a seizure. I worried about him while we were gone & left my mom with specific instructions in the event that he had one. The first time he had one, I had a full-blown panic attack. I'm crazycakes, I know.

I worry that Cosmo is getting older & I worry about that day. I know it's coming in the next few years & I just don't want it to happen. I worry that I may kill him if he doesn't stop scratching up the wainscotting I worked SO FREAKIN hard on in the entryway (I really wouldn't kill him, but seriously dog?!).

I worry that Gus will run away. He's gotten a lot better about trying to run out doors. He seems very content with us now. I also worry he'll be rough housing with the other two dogs & break a leg. His skinny legs freak me out!

  • I worry about Sammy - he's epileptic and is on meds to control his seizures, but he still has break through seizures every few months.  He's also had TPLO surgery on both of his hind legs to repair torn ACL's but the last few months he's been kind of wobbly and sliding around on the tile.  I'm afraid the boys will be playing when we're not here and Sam will get hurt.

You don't keep him in a crate when you're gone?!

No, we haven't done that in years.  Up until we got new furniture recently, they were out in the house and it was never an issue.  Now they are gated in the hall/bathroom/laundry room area.
