Yes, I know this has been talked about before but I'm horrible about paying attention to things that I don't need at the time they are talked about...
We should be moving at the end of the month, our new house is only 4 miles away from where we currently live. We've moved several times over the last 10 years but have never hired movers, this is probably the shortest distance we've moved although all moves have been within a 20 mile radius.
Anyway, I'm toying with the idea of hiring movers/truck to load/unload and etc, especially since I can't help other than to pack boxes. My parents (who live in the middle between these 2 houses) will NOT help, my dad will likely be out of the country so I may convince my mom to at least watch ds. ILs will be coming down from Dallas to help but dh's dad is getting older and not as much help moving large items.
So, unless anyone wants to volunteer their husbands (lol)...What are some good companies you have used before and what is the avg price for movers?
Re: Movers?
I'll never move myself again if I can possibly avoid it.
Three Men Movers did our last move and by far were worth the extra money. We had Omar Alvarado's crew and I know two of my friends requested him and were happy too.
I don't remember what we paid... i know they are a little higher than some.
I don't know how movers work...is it pay by the hour? If so, did you find that the crew you used was quick and efficient or did they seem to be slow to stretch out the time?
This was pay by the hour. Some might come look at your stuff and give you a flat rate.
With this crew, they worked efficiently and carefully.
I used Tomball Moving and Storage on a previous move and I thought they were purposefully wasting my time. They took a million breaks. We complained to the owners (my IL's have used this company many many many times but the last 2 times I'd used them were bad experiences). The owner agreed that they took too long and credited us some of our money back.
We've used movers the last 2 times and I'll never move my cr@p by myself if I can help it.
It really depends on who you use. Ours were hourly with 3 hour minimum. We had everything boxed and ready to be loaded when they arrived. We used right at the minimum # of hours when we moved form Sugar Land to out house close to JV. I remember and ex-BF paid by the piece a few years ago. He moved from one side of Studemont to the other.
Hire the movers! We paid an hourly rate and they were very efficient. Money well spent and I don't think we will ever move ourselves again.
We used Bay Area Movers twice. Great job.
Yes and no. We aren't going into your neighborhood but we are on the same side of the highway now! We are going into Oakcrest off of Shaw Rd. It's about 2 curves away from the new high school. lol
