Favorite Houston area park. Need ideas for group picnic

Do you have a favorite park in Houston area? Any suggestions for a great place for company picnic to grill (or eat sandwiches if burn ban in effect) and play softball/etc? Yes, I realize I am asking this why George Bush park is burning up. I am a terrible person. I've just looked into Hermann and Memorial - can't play any games there. Also looked into Brazos Bend, which I am most excited about but there is the $7 each fee to get in. Not so fun with 45 people. Also left a message with Clear Lake Park, but they only answer phone until 430.

  • There is a burn/grill ban in all public parks right now.

    Hermann Park is my fav.

  • stevenson park in friendswood is cute, with a gazebo and stuff.  i don't think they have baseball/sopftball though.

challenger 7 memorial park at 45/NASA 1 had great big pavilions with tables, and lots of play structures... plus just plenty of open space to run.   no baseball field, but you could play in the open space.

frankie carter randolph park in (friendswood?) has a baseball field, although i don't know if it's just for league play or not.

I know there is in Houston. I am staying optimistic that it clears by late October when I have my event. And if not, we'll order sandwiches. Brazos Bend, Nassua Bay and Clear Lake are not in burn bans at this time.

That is a good idea about Friendswood. I had not thought of that area yet. Thanks!

October is soccer season and there are a few leagues that might play there (our league played there back in the day), so be sure to look into that when you call.

But from the parks listed in the Clear Lake area, Challenger Park is probably my favorite.  It has great open space like pp said and a few really great playgrounds, and watering holes for fishing, and a boat ramp also.
