Sigh...so ladies, here is my conflict:
Our keynote speaker at my firm's Annual Meeting in Chicago this year is former President Bill Clinton. I love Bill Clinton. After our luncheon, he will speak to our investors and firm in a very small, intimate invironment, with a Q&A session to follow. No problem, right?
But here's the thing -
If I go to AM this year, it will have to be a day trip - fly up to Chicago, attend a meeting or two, luncheon, session with Bill, and then leave to fly back home. All in one day. Ugh!!!!
Ordinarily, I would go up the day before and attend meetings/sessions and so would already be there - no big deal. But due to changes to our event format this year, I would only need to go up on that one day. It will mean a lot of haul assing from minute one, and possibly a late evening return. Oh - and then work bright and early the next day! I know people in my firm who do this all the time and worse, but as I hate flying, and usually need a day or more between flights to get my nerve up for the second flight, this is causing me much angst. Attendance isn't mandatory, and I can opt to stay in work in my home office. But then I have a feeling that I'll regret the chance to be in an intimate setting with a real live President....
What to do??? I know what I should do. I just don't quite like that option... :-(
I need some courage, ladies!!!
Re: To Go or Not To Go?
Goooo!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Sure flying that much in one day is no good, but like you said, lots of people do it all the time for pointless meetings. This is something exciting!
It sounds like a cool opportunity, but I have the same flying anxiety as you so I understand both sides. Which decision you think you would REGRET the most?

If it is a direct flight, you should totally go!!! What a great opportunity! Like you said, there are some people that do this kind of commute all the time and have no problems! Plus, you don't even have to worry about luggage (sometimes the worst part about flying), you can just hop on the plane with your purse
However, if you do have to make connections, I would say it's not worth it.
It's too bad you can't extend your stay, Chicago is an awesome city to visit.

Is there a way you can fly the next day and arrive to work just a few hour later like around noon time
I would go, for two reasons 1. will you have this chance again, 2. It might help you get over the fear of flying...
Go. It's like a 2 hour flight (well, closer to 4 when you figure delays at O'Hare). You will have a short time of physical angst and a lifetime of really cool memories.
Of course, I did a day trip to Amsterdam earlier this year so I'm probably a bad one to ask.
GO! You'll regret it if you don't! It'll be good flying practice for you too, especially if it is direct!
If you go, I'll give you a pretty little badge for courage ala
You can do it Stacy!!!

Oh Stacy, you've got to go! And maybe you'll be too busy/excited to worry about the return trip?
Reminds me of my trip to DC in January 2009 for Obama's inauguration... We drove down, crashed at a friend's place on the floor, got up at 3:00 in the morning so we could trudge down to the Mall and camp out on the hard icy grass for 8 hours before the ceremony began... Pain the a$$? You betcha. Worth it? Abso-freakin-lutely. Something I can't wait to tell Milo about!

Ditto this exactly! You will survive the tiring day, but I don't think you will regret it.
Thank you guys!!! Have I told you that you are the best, lately???
I will do a post on "the decision" (am I getting worse than LeBron?) I think I found a pretty cool compromise!
Go!!!!
Mike would kick you if you don't. LOL Bill was his FAVORITE president.....and oddly enough Amanda shares Bill's birthday.
It's a lifetime opportunity. Do it!!
This!! You can do it! You'll regret NOT going, I don't think you would regret going right? :-) Good flight vibes sent to you!
