I recently got picked to be a part of the college volunteer program at a children's hospital nearby. I went to orientation this week and my first day for training is supposed to be this Friday. At orientation they told us we are allowed to miss 2 days of "work" during the semester (we have to meet a 25 hour volunteering minimum for the semester in order for our volunteering experience to count). Anyways, my sister is being induced Friday morning and I HAVE to be there. It's her first baby, it's been a really hard pregnancy for her, and she's asked me to be in the delivery room for support.
How would you handle this? I want to come off looking professional and I am so excited to have the opportunity to volunteer. They told us there is no excused/unexcused absences, but shouldn't I still call and let them know I won't be there?
