Ok so we are doing a staycation the week (kid free) and have no idea what to do at night. Where are the places to grab a drink/great meal? What is there to do during the week? Museums? Any day trips?Clearly we need help being "un-lame" :-)
Re: Help us not be lame :-)
The Newseum is expensive but fascinating. The Smithsonians frequently have really cool visiting exhibits and are free, which is lovely - the Air and Space museum's Udvar-Hazy center out by Dulles has some really cool stuff to see, if you're so inclined. The botanical gardens are really beautiful, Great Falls has some great hiking trails for all levels (if you're in decent shape and want a greater challenge, there's always Old Rag).
In terms of going out at night, Oyamel, Zaytinya, Volt, Rasika, Ceiba, Bistro Bis, and about a million other places have delicious food. Also check the Kennedy Center, National Theater, Warner Theater, etc. to see what's there.
Just a few suggestions - enjoy your stay-cation!
definitely hit up the happy hours at zaytinya or oyamel then have dinner
we really enjoyed our anniversary dinner at blue duck tavern
the museum of american history is one of my favorites, along with any of the art museums (but i am art geek, this is not everyone's cup of tea)
i think some of the leesburg area wineries are open on weekday afternoons/evenings (fabbioli was our favorite)
Take a day trip to Annapolis and eat some seafood, drink some beers.
Graffiato is a new restaurant in Gallery Place that got good reviews and is supposed to be hip.

I love hanging out in the lounge at Vermillion. It's lush and the drinks are really creative and fun (feminine, but not girly, if that makes sense.) The apps are tasty (and on special.) The hubz and I went one day after work and both of us really enjoyed ourselves. (He's not a bar/HH person at all.) It's a great place to cozy up and chat with.
I would also do a tourist day in DC. See the things that are too crowded on weekends. Maybe the BEP "factory" tour. And wander around one of the art museums-- they are sooo quite during the week.
