What would you make for dinner in a gourmet kitchen?
DH and I rented a big house in the mountains for our anniversary this weekend. I want to cook something special on Saturday night, and this house has a beautiful gourmet kitchen, so the meal need not be easy and quick. We're already doing seafood on Friday night.... any ideas? What would you make for a special meal?
Thanks!
Re: What would you make for dinner in a gourmet kitchen?
Do you think it will be well stocked in terms of spices and pantry items? I would keep that in mind. You don't want to have to lug a million little baggies of paprika and what not. My favorite fancy at home meal is duck au poivre (which doesn't involve a ton of ingredients). I would pair that with potatoes au gratin or risotto and a roasted veggetable. And some fancy cheese for before or after.
ETA: at the end of this old blog post is the recipe I use.
Ooh, that looks yummy. I've never made duck before. Thanks for the suggestion!

WE made this last christmas and the recipe is so easy but it came out PERFECT and was DELICIOUS:

I would do that with something like a nice risotto, or some oohey-gooey cheesy app with a frisee salad or something and make a nice dessert. Good wine is always nice too-will you be out by any local vineyards?
Could you post where the cabin is-DH And I are looking for a getaway and that sounds lovely?

Thank you! Thank you! for the suggestions! I like the looks of that pot roast recipe, and the sauce on the rack of lambs looks delish.
The cabin is actually owned by a friend, and she's not currently renting it out to non-friends at the moment, unfortunately.
