We've been wanting to switch from pre-ground coffee for a while, but just haven't wanted to fork over the money for a grinder. We accidentally grabbed coffee beans at Sam's last night though, so it's time to buy a grinder now.
Can anyone recommend their grinder? Or tell me what I should look for when buying one.
TIA!
Re: Coffee grinder?
I bought a cheapo one at Target and it has lasted forever. I might even still have it, if I do, you can have it. I have a grinder on my regular coffee maker so I no longer use it, ever. (And I use the Keurig most mornings)
I'll look tonight and let you know.
What kind of coffee maker do you use? French press, percolator, electric, etc?
The best grinder is a burr grinder like this. It gets a more even grind on the beans so you can get the most from them every time. They can be a little spendy, though.
We had this blade grinder for a while and it worked fine, however the resulting coffee grounds can be uneven in size, leading to inconsistent brew quality. Another downfall that we found is that there is heat created when you hold down the button and get a fine ground. This can give the coffee an almost burnt taste. We adapted though and just ground in burst pushes like a food processor.
We have a cheap one ($9.99) from Target that has been good to us for a long time (4ish? years). We recently bought a new one - ($19.99) from BBB.
DH loves grinding his own coffee in the morning - and it really doesn't take much time - the grinder is really fast. Actually, sometimes, he grinds at night, then just leaves it in there for him to dump in the maker in the monring.
