? for the daycare moms

we have our first "back to school" night tonight.  since joe is only 4 1/2 months old i find the entire prospect highly amusing.  i know the parent committee will be there in full effect and probably looking for volunteers.  we use a ymca facility so it is a non-profit and i know there are fundraisers and all that jazz but i am not sure what else would be involved.  so the questions:

do you volunteer at daycare?

what does your parent committee do?

thanks!

Re: ? for the daycare moms

  • I dont volunteer because with just moving, we've had more than enough on our plate, but I am considering it in the future. Our dc emails all the meeting agendas/minutes so I still am kind of in the loop on what the parent board/volunteers do. At my dc, mostly the board does the more official stuff like setting up staff professional development programs, managing state regulations, reviewing curriculum, setting rates and policies etc. The volunteers tend to come up with and carry out the fundraising events, plan for cutesy events like grandparents day and donuts for dads (on fathers day), manage the long term fundraisers like boxtops for education etc. I wish they did a parents evening out like our local goddard offers their families, but I havent brought that up as an idea yet since I feel sleazy suggesting more tasks for the staff to do without volunteering myself!

  • I don't even think we have a parents committee...I haven't been involved in Oliver's current daycare b/c it's just temporary (we're switching to a new one in October --- one that we've been on the waiting list for, and a spot just opened up!).

If we have a committee at the new daycare, I'll probably volunteer for small things...just to meet other moms in our area b/c we just moved and I don't know anyone in the immediate area! I have so little free time, though, so I'd need to make sure I don't get sucked into more than I can do.

  • How did the meeting go?

I don't volunteer because they don't really ask.  Once in a while we are asked tdo bring misc items (total maybe $10 per year)

We have around 2-3 fundraisers per year (selling stuff)
