anyone refinish wood floors?

long story but we have a MAJOR water stain on our hardwood floods. i have let other little scratches and stuff go but this can't be covered or ignored. anyone have a good rec for a floor refinisher? i don't even know where to begin on this one (besides google).

Re: anyone refinish wood floors?

  • We used Beaulieu Floors to redo our 40 year old wood floors.  I think Artslvr referred us.  They were fab!

There were some sections where the wood was bad.  They cut out the wood and put new wood down.  Cannot tell at all.  DH used to know where they were, but he has forgotten.  Having said that, we had the floor on that level redone.  I think that is what you are planning but not sure.  Here is the link - http://www.beaulieufloors.com/

Tell him Kathy and Greg sent you ;o)

  • We used AG Floors in Rockville last year to refinish all of our hardwood on the main level. We had stains in one room and they did similar - replacing the plank - and you can't tell at all. We also told them to stop at the threshold to the closets so we didn't have to totally empty them out. You can barely tell the closet floors weren't refinished, and only if you're looking closely with the door open.

Two things I would recommend - find somewhere else for y'all and Wrigley to stay for a few days (including a few days after they finish putting the poly down while you air your house out - that shiit stinks to high heaven) and clean your house really well after you can get back in because the dust goes everywhere.

I'd also recommend paying for extra coats of poly, i think two are standard (apparently water based is less durable under foot traffic and animal claws so we didn't do it) because we've found that grit from the street that gets tracked in and stuck under the vacuum has scratched our floors in a few places.

ETA: they have really good reviews on Angie's List and were the lowest price of three companies we got estimates from.

Wholeheartedly agree - Louis Beaulieu is fabulous.
