WWYD: pcos treatment

Re: WWYD: pcos treatment

  • Are you on Metformin? I have PCOS and I was on Metformin and Clomid. For me monitoring on Clomid was an every other day u/s to make sure I wasn't producing an extreme number of follicles, never bloodwork.

I have had 5 m/c, but (obviously) two successful pregnancies. My two successful pregnancies were metformin/clomid.

  • My monitoring does not involve bloodwork, only ultrasounds.

  • Monitoring varies with practitioners.  My RE used ultrasound and bloodwork, but I know some that rely upon only one method.  With clomid what they're watching for more than anything is too many follicles, specifically in the fallopian tubes.  That's one of the biggest risks of taking clomid (tubal pregnancies).  If you're concerned about the monitoring that they're doing express it to your doctor.  Tell him/her that you're considering going elsewhere, but also know that another doctor might monitor you just the same.  Not all doctors do the same thing and they don't do it the same with each patient.

    I wish you the best!

  • Thanks for the replies. I am just a bit worried, I guess it the damn horomones makes me a bit crazy, but I want this baby and want to make sure I am not getting half of the service I am supposed to. Thanks again, oh and no Metformin on my end.
  • Have you talked to your RE about Aldactone?  It just depends on your natural hormone levels --- since pcos is so variable with every person.

  • I'm sure some people will flame me for this, but I didn't have any monitoring. I was on Metformin + Clomid and had an hCG booster after ovulation. I have one healthy little dude and had an uneventful (in a good way) pregnancy.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

  • I couldn't take Clomid.  The side effects made me want to jump off a bridge... and I never got pg.  However, my first round of Femara + Metformin + trigger worked... and obviously cured any infertility problem I ever had...  that's a joke!  My RE used u/s and bw..

    I'm still on metformin...

  • I was on Clomid. I was lucky I just did one round and got preggo. After I took the Clomid I did have to go in for blood work. Didn't do an u/s, but he did mention when we do the 2nd round of Clomid. I just had a regular obgyn and not a RE.
