Should I get wi-fi?

Time Warner has this package where for $5.99 more a month, I can get Wi-fi for our home. Would you get it or just use your regular high speed internet with the wires plugged into the laptop? Since the whole Verizon thing is not working out, I am looking at other options. I just want internet for school and a little play. I mean we survived all these years without internet so its not like we are tech-advanced or anything. Please let me know what you think? thanks

if i had a laptop, i would want wifi. But since i have a desktop only, it doesn't make sense for me. Since you have a laptop, I'd get the wifi.

Hey ok. Thanks for the input. Although we have ports in each bedroom and the living room so maybe using the wifi in the porch or kitchen or something right?

hm....well, the main reason I would want wifi is because I'm always in my living room wishing I could be watching tv and surfing the net at the same time ;-) (our computer is up in our office by itself). But if you have ports all over the place, it might not really be necessary. Unless you could see yourself sitting on the porch and surfing, or using it for a recipe or something while you are in the kitchen (I always look up recipes on my phoen, but I could see how the computer would be helpful if I coudl get it in the kitchen).

You can buy a basic wireless router at places like Best Buy. They plug into your modem and provide wireless all on their own. Over the course of 6 months, a basic router would pay for itself. We bought our router 7 years ago for something like $50 and it's still going strong! They are super easy to set up, most come with picture-based instructions.

This is what we did too. It's totally worth the extra cash up front for what you'd pay in the long run.

We only have Time Warner's Wi-Fi, not the cable. We both have laptops so it's great. Plus, since getting the Wii as a wedding present we couldn't do without it... Netflix streams via the Wii and we LOVE it.
