I applied for a job and got called for an interview, and after my references were phoned I was called back for a second interview. Can anybody give me some advice as to how the second interview will differ from the first? I have only ever had first interviews when applying for jobs and I am a little unsure as to what to expect for this second one.
In advance, thank you and I appreciate any help you may have.
Re: Second Interview
For me it's pretty much been like a first interview, just with (sometimes) different people. If you didn't talk to HR the first go-around, you might this time. Or you may talk to people higher up the food chain, or more peers. It all depends on the company and who you spoke to in the first round.
I'd prepare like it was a first interview and take it from there. GL and don't forget TYs!

For my (very) recent experience, the first interview was with HR and the hiring manager of the position. You learn about the job, the company, etc.
My second interview was with the team (the supervisor, the team leader and an executive VP who oversaw the entire department). There, we discussed the philosophies of the managers, the direction they want the department to go in and goals of the team.
So I would suspect that this is the same - you should ask if you can get a list of who you'll be meeting with and ascertain the roles in their departments. That way you can prep for the interview.
For me second interview have been more spcific and a lot of the questions I was asked were detailed and extremely specific to the acutal job whereas the first interview were general questions i.e. where do you see yourself in 5 years, tell me a time...
Second interview questions were- This job requires you to ..... can you/how will you.
Like pps, there is often a meeting with a higher up as well. I've had a 5 minute one to an hour grill session ( I got both jobs).
HTH and GL!
Thank you everyone for the advice! I am really excited and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get this position. It is two minutes from my house and a city position so it will be great in the long run.
I did however on my first interview, meet with HR and my direct boss (were I to get the position). I hope this meeting is similar to the first. My first interview went very well!
Very strange...
