Toddler activities near Yarmouth

Hey everyone. I'm sorry I haven't been around much - life has been crazy busy! Lily and I are coming to Maine next week and staying for almost two weeks! We'll be staying with my parents in North Yarmouth, and we really don't have any plans beyond a wedding at Sugarloaf the first weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on some things we could do with an early walker? I'm assuming we'll have to drive to Portland. The children's museum?  Is there anything like Gymboree or Little Gym? Any good parks? We are always up for a GTG too ;)

Re: Toddler activities near Yarmouth

  • How fun! The Children's Museum is great, but some things are geared toward kids a bit older. They do have a fun toddler area and some other activities Lily would like. She would love Peekaboo Children's Center in Westbrook! Also the Deering Oaks playground is great.

  • We haven't been to the Children's museum yet, but have heard it's great. Peek-a-boo and Greenlight are popular places. I'm sad we're going to miss you. We'll be in Pawley's the 20th -28th :(

Don't be too sad, Pawely's is awesome. (Plus, I'll be there until the 4th, but I know how crazy things are when you get back from vacation!)

  • Um, hang out with me and MJ?  We have a hiking group that gets together Monday afternoons if you can make that work come and join!  I love Greenlight in Portland (not sure why but not as big a fan of peekaboo).  Also Maine Wildlife park may still be open, lots of fun to see animals.  Pineland farms does a story hour I think Monday mornings that is supposed to be fantastic, they also do tours of the farm I think on Fridays (but maybe just during summer).  Also definitely take her apple picking while you're here.  Childrens Museum is good also-- enclosed toddler area is nice.  On North Rd in Yarmouth is a great playground if you need to kill some time, and if it's warm enough, Cousins beach in Yarmouth is free and close by and lots of rocks/ sand if you can keep her away from the water.  Whole foods does a Story time in portland (maybe Weds mornings) that is good, check their website for the time.  Also Falmouth Library does story time Thursdays at 4 that I've heard is excellent as well.   Hmmm that should keep you busy for a little bit at least!

We'll have to meet up! Unpacking can wait. I know DH will want to hang with us, but eh :P I can't wait for SC. Haven't been back in 6 years and no one from my family has really met Caroline
  • H you rock! Thanks for all the tips! I'd love to get together! What time do you guys go hiking? Lily naps in the afternoon, but we may be able to make it, depending on the time.

M - yay, I'm glad you are down for something too!

  • I'm always up for a lunch time GTG! Fridays work best for me.

No Gymboree or Little Gym in Maine.

The Portland Children's Museum is mostly for older kids but there is a toddler play area inside where Lily could run around.

Off Rt. 27 in Carrabassett Valley, between Sugarloaf and Kingfield, there is a nice playground. We took Helen there when we were up there for a wedding in July.

  • I'll send you a message on FB and we can make some plans from there.  Safe trip here and look forward to seeing you guys!!

Anyone else up for a GTG?  We could meet at Greenlight one afternoon or something??  I think they're open late on Tuesdays but would have to check the website.
