whole coffee beans

DH got a bag of whole coffee beans (with some kind of vanity label - it's not a regular brand) from a company who wants his business, but we don't have a coffee grinder.  Can I throw the beans in my mini-food processor to grind them?  Will it grind the coffee small enough to work in my coffee maker?

Re: whole coffee beans

  • I've never tried it, so I can't say for sure, but I kind of doubt it would get it fine enough. You could try sneaking it in to a grocery store and using the grinder in the coffee aisle. Or you can borrow ours. It's small, works well and we never use it.
  • Do you have a French press? That takes coarse ground beans, which *might* work. But otherwise . . . no, probably not. They're only like $15 though, and you can use them for spices and stuff, too, so might no be a bad investment.

  • MPD - in theory I"ll be seeing you in a week or two right?  Any way you could bring it since it's small?  I could figure out a way to get it back to you before you miss it.  (If not, I'll just sneak my beans into the grocery store and hope they don't question me.)  I'm not thinking I'll grind enough spices in my life to make buying one worthwhile.  (I like to cook, but I'm not nearly motivated enough!)

Yes! I can totally bring it! And then we'll just be forced to meet up for lunch or something for the return hand off ;)
