Nursery Pics

So I finally took some more nursery pics.  We still don't have anything on the walls and I really want to get some curtains (just, like, sheer, cute kids stuff, maybe frogs or something).
I also added a couple pics of the wood graining technique at the bottom for Mara.

Re: Nursery Pics

  • I love it! It looks so bright and happy. I really like yellow on walls. My BFF painted her kitchen a dijon mustard color and it looks awful, but this I like!
  • Super cute!! I love the big bear, that will be cute to do monthly pictures on and see how big s/he gets!

Yep, I posted some before shots a while ago, but it was basically painted with plain old flat paint.

We have about 5-7 coats of paint on there - primer, undercoat, undercoat, upper coat, upper coat, and a coat of the upper coat paint with the wood graining.

Basically, when you look at wood there's usually two colors.  So you start with a full coat of the undercoat (usually a lighter color - we went with a burgandy/mahogany color).  Then with a really coarse-bristled brush, apply a thin layer of the upper coat (the dark brown that you mostly see - we did this twice), and then apply a more even layer and use this tool that will create the wood graining shapes.  It's really actually pretty easy and we think it turned out so good.  It's hard to tell in the pictures because the color is so dark and we used a really glossy glaze so it shines a bit.

That's what I figured you had done!  It looks amazing!  You guys should be proud of yourselves!

I actually have no idea.  It was a gift from my nieces for the baby shower.  It's huge and takes up so much space, but I love it!  Really soft too.
