Do you have data on your phone?
I'm beginning to think Jake and I are the only people left without data or smartphones. Part of me really wants to give in and get it and another part of me doesn't.

Yes and I love it.
It is expensive, but we use our phones all the time. It comes in very handy when we are out running errands and need to check something (the weather, directions, locations of places etc).
See, those are all reasons that I'm tempted (besides the price) but I've lived without for this long and I've done just fine. I still use good old fashioned maps and I kind of like it that way. I'm kind of scared I might become too attached.

We don't have it. I actually have been eligible for an upgrade for 2 years now and I'm still carrying my old LG chocolate that I got before we got married (!!)
I like it this way. I have internet at home and at work. I, personally, sometimes like to be detached from the world wide web and just "be". It helps me stay focused because I can easily get caught up in what's going on with facebook or here or other random sites...
It's one of those things where if you don't have it, you don't really miss it, but once you have it, it's difficult to imagine living without it.
For us... I like having it, it does make my life easier and I wouldn't want to give it up, but if I had to, I could. I have a gps/ turn-by-turn on both cars, and as long as I could call 411 I would probably be fine. It's sort of like most computers-- great for many functional things which will get used from time to time, but strongly used for entertainment value.

I don't have it, and neither does DH. Yes, it'd be nice to be able to look things up while we're out and about, but really, the cost isn't worth it to me.
I get made fun of for it at work, but whatevs
I sometimes joke that I don't even want the phone on my phone - in other words, in our super-connected world I sometimes really enjoy the disconnect.
I get what ya mean, sometimesI hate talking on the phone. My friend was just giving me crap about never returning phone calls. Sometimes I just don't feel like talking!

This is another reason why I don't really want a data plan. A lot of my coworkers are really "plugged in" to their email on their personal phones. I've told my boss many times that if I need to get my email and hand out my cell phone number to every Tom, ***, & Harry then they can foot the bill. I'm still holding out. Haha.
I do and I agree with others that it's hard to imagine going without it once you have it. I said I would never get it. Haha.
It's actually giving me more unplugged time at home which is nice. I check my google reader, this board, facebook, etc. when I'm waiting somewhere boring or riding in the car. I'm catching up on these things at home less and less.
Yup. I use it most for checking my email and updating my google calendar. I also play quite a few games, but not all of them need data to play.
I don't have my phone attached to my work email, so when I leave work I'm done unless I choose to log in on my laptop

We have it and love it for these reasons. I don't mind being so connected at all times. I guess maybe because I have the self control to ignore it...PLUS, I don't have a job that I have to answer emails. Therefore, even when I am on my smart phone - work doesn't even come into the picture.
We don't. But I know when the new iphone comes out, we will be upgrading. I need a new phone and it is almost impossible to get a phone now that is not a data phone.
And what is funny, both my parents have smart phones.

DH has for a while now, I just got a smartphone a couple of weeks ago. I have to admit that I love it! I don't use it for gps (like you mentioned, I still love going the maps route), but it's great for when I have down time while waiting for Dr appointments, or when I'm on bathroom duty at work and don't have papers to correct. Just a nice way to check in on things during the day, and like Jaay said, I find myself on the computer less at night now that I'm able to get online during the day. Could I live without it? Absolutely. But I have to admit that I'm enjoying it more than I thought I ever would

My boring blog
Jennrs- DH and I were just joking that we are the only ones without a data plan. When I got my new phone last year I told the sales guy at Verizon that I wanted a phone without needing a data plan, he pointed to the 4 phones that don't require a data plan. I got really annoyed and told the guy it was ridiculous that they only offered 4 phones. He said "well we are becoming a data world and soon every phone will require a data plan" Well I chimed back with "well if its going to be required it should just be built into our plan and not really be an "extra" since it won't be optional any more" He didn't seem amused by my comment and then he said "well the next time you upgrade you'll probably have to get a data plan" I said "well I'm having twins and have another daughter so I guess I'll be holding onto my phone until it dies because I won't be paying extra since I'll be paying for daycare"
Needless to say I left very annoyed that day!!
But back to the whole data thing, I don't really have any use for a phone with a data plan. I am a teacher so I am not allowed to use my phone during the day. Then I get my kids and come home where I have a computer, so I don't really need to check my email or go on FB on my phone. Although DH and I were out the other day and wanted to go to a farm and we didn't know the address so I had to text a friend with an iphone to look it up for me. So there are occasional times we could use one.

Know what ridiculousness I realized this morning? I lug to work a laptop, my smart-phone and a tablet. That's 3 devices! I think it's fair to say if I had zero I'd be a little lost.
I will say that work pays for the phone, the data and the tablet. If it was me buying i'd have just the smartphone.
