We have a kid free week coming up and are looking at Belize. Where did you stay? What did you do? Was it relaxing? Do they have booze?
Re: Anyone been to Belize?
Fun!!!
We stayed at Victoria House on San Pedro for a week (cabanas + beach + booze) for diving/snorkeling, boating and fishing; then a week at the Banana Bank in the jungle where we did less relaxing things like cave tubing, hiking, Mayan ruins, etc.
Would go back in a heartbeat. Like now.
We stayed at the Pelican Reef Villas and they now have a new sister property that just opened (Athena's Gate). Loved it. So relaxing and we were well taken care of. The island is very small and you drive golf carts to get around. However, that is what I liked about it. The beaches are beautiful and the snorkeling is amazing. Food is awesome and I can tell you where to eat should you guys decide to go. I have been twice to Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) and we are going back in November. I too have heard good things about Victorian House.
Booze - Lots' of rum but they only have 3 beers on the island. Belikin dark, light and stout
This-loved Victoria House. Its a small boutique style hotel. We also rented a car and drove to the Pine Ridege mountains and stayed at Hidden Valley to do some hiking and just relax.
LOVE belize!
stayed at the corona del mar on san pedro. its a small hotel, and the rooms are basically small apartments. we bought a few groceries and ate out for dinner most nights. there were several "regulars" at the hotel that told us about some really good local places to eat.
we went snorkeling a few times and just booked through excursion companies. the hotel is on the water and they picked us up (and dropped off) at the wharf on the back of the hotel.
definitely try to snorkel/scuba at shark rey alley. we walked around the island one day, spent some time on the beach and just relaxed. we were there saturday through thursday morning.
the rum punch was everywhere... dd was born 9 months later
DH's aunt and uncle just bought a condo and some land down there is summer. When they went down to look at places they stayed at the Victoria house and loved it.
Have fun!

This. I've only been to Belize on a cruise stop, so I'm no help. We love Roatan (a Honduran island just south of Belize) though, so so so beautiful!
