BR: How do you know if you're not ovulating?

Okay, so test was negative again this month. I'm now thinking more and more that there's a problem. I'm going on nearly two years since I was pregant.

I was a temp failure, but I did try to watch my mucus per you guys...and it always seemed the same. This has me thinking maybe I'm not ovulating? Can you have a period without ovulating??

If I get some of those OPKs and never get a positive or whatever it is on them does that mean I'm not ovulating?

I do have a repeat pap at the doctor on the 27th so I'm going to bring all this up, but I want to start doing the OPKs before that if that's what I need to do. Is it?

Re: BR: How do you know if you're not ovulating?

  • When I saw my doctor a couple weeks ago I brought up some of my concerns.  She said that if your period is extremely long or you skip periods that is when you aren't ovulating.  Since I am extremely regular (or was until this month) that I was ovulating, just earlier than "average".

If I had had better luck with OPKs I would encourage using them.  Since I only had them for 1 cycle, I can't discourage them either.  They just never told me when I was ovulating.   If something doesn't change here, I'll probably break down and buy them again.  Taking my temps just doesn't seem to be happening.

And obviously not getting a + OPK does NOT mean you aren't ovulating.  How else did K get here!  Wink

  • I never ovulate. I also haven't seen AF since February maybe. Even on the "begginer" fertility drugs I only ovulated twice, and I took 6 rounds of meds.

You can "bleed" and not ovulate but its not conisdered a period.

I would def talk to your doctor about it. If you are going to OPK route. I would get the cheap ones form online and buy enough that you can use them EVERY day. Like Danielle said you could be ovulating very early or late. If you use the 2 week OPK kits you could possibly be missing it.

  • Oh, okay - my periods are really regular. They start a day or so early sometimes, but other than that very regular.

I finally ordered TCOYF (I don't know why I put it off for so long, I'm so weird about this baby making stuff I guess. I just like to "do it" and that's it!).

When do you start OPK's? After your period stops? Trying to figure out if I need to run to Target at lunch or get them this weekend. I didn't order them quick enough to have them here in time don't think.

I feel really clueless - thank you guys for continuing to help me!

You can start them the day after your period stops.  For my 25 day cycle my doctor said I was probably ovulating around day 11.  So I would have started testing around days 7 or 8.  So depending on what day you are on will determine if you can wait or not.

Ok so your period is techinically day 1 of your cycle.  Normal text book ovulation ocurs around day 14, but everyone is different. I would say start using them no later then day 9 of your cycle if you going to go the using them every day method like I suggested. Knowing me I would start using them on day 1, but really you shouldnt have to start that early.

  • This is really helpful - I didn't realize there were two different versions. I'll go to the store this weekend when I have time to read the boxes. I definitely want to do the every day kind.

Then I may order more so I'm not paying the high price next month.

  • I think the only 30 day test I have seen in the store was the brand Answer. I think I got it at Target.
