speaking of name spellings

Last night I went to pick up some clearance patio furniture I ordered from Lowe's. When they brought me the boxes, they all had hand-written stickers on them with my last name misspelled -- they left off the last letter. Those of you who know my last name should be laughing by now. For those of you who don't know my last name, let me tell you -- it's a three letter name and the last two letters are the same. How much easier could you get?! This is the first time in 5 years I've ever had my married name misspelled. Just goes to show you, no matter how easy you make it, some one will screw it up!  LOL

Re: speaking of name spellings

  • Oh my goodness, that is kind of sad!
  • oh too funny! I have been shocked that people can mispronounce my married last name... since it's such a Mayflower name I figured it's common... but apparently not. It never crossed my mind and at our wedding, and my cousin read something that included the last name and totally butchered it (his wife also thinks I'm now related to "Troy Aiken").

  • My maiden name was a total white bread, English name made of two common words stuck together, along the lines of Applebee, Greenfield, Woodbridge, etc. I bought something at a department store one time and the clerk looked at my credit card and said, "Thank you Miss...how do you pronounce your name?" Uh, exactly the way it's spelled?

  • Hey, no need to waste the effort writing the last letter when it's just going to sound the same.

Our office coordinates the diplomas for graduation and we go through them about a zillion times before the ceremony to make sure that they're correct and in the right order.  I always insist on being the one to read the names aloud because everyone else stumbles over shockingly simple names and it takes ten years to get through them all.

I get this with my married name. Umm, it's two very common words stuck together. So not that difficult :)

  • That's a silly misspelling!

My last name is a common last name but it's also a first name for males.  My grandfather anglicized it so people didn't have to pronounce the long Polish version.  I cannot tell you the number of people who have asked me "Are you sure that's your last name?  It's a boy's name."  Yes, I am very sure.  Thank you for checking.
