QOTD - Thursday edition

Do you judge people by their appearance?

Re: QOTD - Thursday edition

  • Oh without a doubt.  I mean, just casual observations like random people in Target, etc.  I don't hold on to those judgments when it's people I interact with at work or something, then I focus on their personality and such.  But, first impressions do matter, and often first impressions have a lot to do with appearance.

  • I don't "judge" people by their appearance...  Although, I probably have some preconceived notions of what that person is like.

  • sure do!

but only initially...I think that's human nature.

(note: if someone where to see me right now, they would probably think I'm homeless. lol.)

    this

i think most people judge appearances on some level, especially if it is some random person we see in passing.

  • I do, mostly based on clothes and general unkemptness. My first impression of someone wearing a business suit would be different than if the same person was wearing sweats.

  • Anyone that says no is a lying liar. And I bet they have greasy hair and dirty clothes.
  • Though my own appearance is far from perfect, yes.

  • Sure do. Doesn't mean my opinion doesn't change if it is someone I then interact with. But I absolutely judge people by their appearance, everyone does.

  • Add me to the yes pile...although reading this poll is making me re-think my attitude about wearing makeup (or lack thereof ..lol)
  • Um, yeah and I'm one of those people who will also see if people's clothes/appearance tend to match their personality after I've met them. For example, my boss dresses very "hippie-like" but in a business casual way. So lots of flowy skirts and casual but pretty tops. She has long wavy hair, in her 40s, and she is sort of how she comes off - very laid back but focused on saving the earth, conservation, etc. My other co-worker is kind of awkward socially and his clothes/hair always look a little awkward as well, so I have to say, sometimes the appearance does match the person. Although, I know that's not always the case. My other boss wears some crazy outfits that I don't think match her personality at all, so that throws me.

  • TOTALLY

For this reason alone I get giddy over going to the MoCo Fair! Not saying it's a wonderful habit, but yes, I think I form lots of snap opinions about people based on they're appearance.

  • Add me to the growing list of yeses.

If I'm in the grocery store or target and I see someone in loungeware - you know the type of pants that are "funky" and have monkeys or fish or something similar.. my first reaction is seriously you couldn't change clothes.

However if I see someone in sweats in a store like homedepot I don't think twice.  I think they're like me and you wear your sweats or stained shirt to do yardwork or paint etc.

ditto. some of the outfits at my office get a huge side eye daily.

  • Absolutely! I think your appearance reflects how well you take care of yourself, and that's important to me. I'm not talking about beauty or weight here, but more like whether someone has made the effort to look neat and presentable.

This exactly.  If a person can only afford clothes from Walmart, but keeps them clean and pressed and their hair is well-kept, my opinion of them is a lot higher than that of a person wearing a filthy too-tight Juicy sweatsuit and a ratty ponytail (however I am certainly known to wear CLEAN sweats and a ratty ponytail to Lowes, Target, etc on a weekend morning).

  • Yes. I tend to focus on either admiring clothing/accessories/makeup/hairstyles or side-eyeing ill fitting or unflattering clothing/hair/makeup.

  • Absolutely! I'm a people watcher as I find the way people dress, act, put themselves together very interesting. On top of wondering what the heck people were thinking when they got dressed this morning (this happens more often in intern season) I sometime like to imagine where people are going or where they just came from with the way they are put together. And that makes me sound a little creepy...
  • Yes, mostly because in my head I'm making them over.

  • Yup...sure do...and I often come up with some kind of pretend back story for them based on their outfits...and I by no means am a trend setter....I sport old navy 90% of the time...:-)
