Baby shower game ideas

Nothing gross like the candy bar in the diaper. yuck.

Looking for fun, as non-cheesy as possible ideas for BFF's shower, which is in just a few weeks. My brain is fried from planning this, and I have procrastinated beyond the point of it being acceptable. So, games fall to me, and I have no idea what to do. Help me my friends. Please!!!

Re: Baby shower game ideas

  • My favorite games are gift bingo (which is nice because it gives everybody something to do as the gifts are opened) and the one where all the attendees get some sort of token (can be anything...bingo chips, little bracelets, charms, etc) and there is a word you aren't allowed to say (I usually use "Baby") and everytime you catch somebody saying the Forbidden Word you get to take one of their tokens.  Whoever has the most tokens at the end of the party wins.

The forbidden word game is good for mixed groups that don't all know each other because it kinda makes them interact a little.  And gift bingo is nice for BIG showers because there area always sooooo many presents to open and it can get boring.  Both have always gone over really well at showers I've hosted.

  • I like the timer game. You set a timer while the mother-to-be is opening gifts and when it goes off, the person whose gift she is opening gets a gift. People don't really have to do anything and they get a gift. I've also been to a shower where they had a game where you had to match celebrity baby mommas with their baby daddies and crazy baby names with their parents. It was pretty funny to see how much the 60 year old ladies knew about the Kardashians.

    These two are good!!

Also at my baby shower there was a poster board of a calendar and people could write down their guess of when the baby would be born. My mom mailed the gift to the winner after DS was born.

We also had a giant clear bag of diapers and people wrote down a guess as to how many diapers were in the bag and dropped their guess in a box. Near the end of the shower my mom announced the winner, and I got to keep the diapers!

IMO, the best games are the optional ones. People can mingle and eat and chat and participate in a game only if they want to.

Thank goodness i am not the only one involved in planning. However, I am a party planning nazi, so it was hard for me to give up control. But, I did well, and am super proud of myself. Someone else if covering centerpieces, cake, and a few other things, and I just said ok, and didn't even ask what they are doing. That was ROUGH. It's gonna be nuts.

  • For the game where you can't say "cute" "baby" whatever... I seen clothes pins being used. Cute idea, since no one hasn't to hold onto them.

I've also seen the game where ribbon is cut by every guest, trying to guest how big the mommy to be belly is.

  • A game my mom had at my shower was she asked everyone to bring a pack of diapers and they could win a prize. At the shower you filled out your name on a slip and if your name was drawn, you got a prize. Bonus is that I walked home with a crap load of diapers. VERY helpful!!

  • We played the following games at the shower I hosted for my sister:

Forbidden Word Game - already explained in pp

Memory Game: Buy a dozen small low cost baby items (pacifiers, bows, socks, etc). Put them on a tray and give the guests 30 seconds to look at it before taking it away. The guests then write down everything they remember in detail. The most right wins and mom to be gets the items! I bought them off her registry.

Picasso: Give the guests one minute to draw a picture of a beautiful baby. The catch is they have to do it with their eyes closed! Mom to be picks the winner.

Association Game: Come up with a list of twenty words (blanket, doll, bottle, etc). in advance, Give the list to Mom and have her write down what she associates with that word/first thing that comes to mind. At the shower, the guests guess what Mom wrote. Most right wins.

  • I just hosted my cousin's baby shower this past weekend.  My cousin is really not into games, but what we did was an activity more or less.  My mom and I bought a bunch of baby and toddler books (from places like Marshall's and TJ Maxx, etc.) and displayed them all throughout the room where we held the gift-opening portion of the shower.  At the end of opening the gifts, we had all the guests sign a book (or 2, however many they want)... writing their best wishes to mom, dad and baby.  It turned out really cute.
