Bachmann, Gardasil & mental retardation

Have we talked about this here? http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/213304/20110913/michele-bachmann-gardasil-mental-retardation.htm

I meant to bring it up the other day & forgot. I can't...I just...she hurts my brain. A lot.

ETA: She made some comment defending this later like," I'm not a medical professional or a scientist, I'm just relaying what I was told." Right. Because that's always a good idea when discussing things of this nature & typically quite accurate.

Re: Bachmann, Gardasil & mental retardation

  • I don't think we have. I would love to discuss when I am on a computer. To much typing for my phone.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • I don't even have words for the moronic bullshit that she spews.

  • Indifferent That woman scares me but so does Rick Perry.

I don't think that Gardasil causes mental retardation and her making a statement like that makes her look like more of an idiot.  I do think that more research should be done with this vax and its long term effects on those who take it.  I only say that because it was recommended to me to do the shot after my OB/GYN discovered I had the early signs of cervical cancer in late 2006.  Even though I was over the recommended age I did the shots on his advice since the thought was that I would be protected from getting cervical cancer at a later date.  When DH and I started trying to get PG it took 1.5 years with the help of fertility meds after I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility to finally get PG with Wyatt.

Do I think that the gardasil shot had some effect on my fertility?  Honestly, I do think it did but of course I have no proof of that.  I guess only time will tell if there is an increase in female infertilty cases in the girls who got the series of shots versus those who didn't.

  • Who are the people who actually take her seriously and go to her rallies I wonder?

But why do you think that? Are you just looking for a scapegoat because that's what it seems like.

  • K&K- I can definitely understand people being cautious with new drugs & the things that people put into their bodies especially when it hasn't been around long enough to see long term side effects. Totally agree with you. But JFC, Bachmann, way to start another Autism anti vaccination craze. On the other side of this argument, I don't support mandating that 6th graders get the vaccine. That gets a big side eye from me almost as much as her ignorant comment.

I was wondering this as well.

I guess I tend to think that because when I had the shot done they toted it as this wonderful 3 series shot to prevent cervical cancer and that all girls should get it and I did just that based on advice from my doctor.  This was when the shot was not as promoted as it has been and insurance refused to cover it.  A year or 2 after I had the shot(s) I read some news article (can't remember where) about the shot and how they were now saying that it may not protect girls for as long as they initally thought and that additional boosters might be needed later in life.

Perhaps I am looking for a scapegoat for my fertility issues.  Like I said, I honestly have no way of knowing if it did or did not have an affect on my fertility but if something came out saying that they were finding girls who were given the shot had issues I wouldn't be all that surprised.

I know this is an extremely personal and sensitive subject, but I guess I still don't understand this. The highlighted part has nothing to do with fertility issues.

I guess I just don't like where this is going because of the similarities to the autism/vax "link" and where that has led. Speculating unfounded claims like this just seem to lead down the same road.
