Another jury duty question
I have jury duty next week. I've never gone before, so I'm not sure what to expect. I've heard there's a lot of sitting around. Should I bring something to read? Do they allow cell phones? How long does it take for them to tell you if you're going to be on a jury?
Oh, and does it matter what I wear?
Re: Another jury duty question
DH wore a suit, but he's anal. Business casual is fine.
They have wifi and you can bring a laptop, books, etc. Not sure about phones. I texted DH but he hasn't gotten back to me (so maybe no phones?)
As I understood it - it could take all day for you to get called for a jury.
I know in NY my mom had to go for 3 days straight and then when she was called it for a child abuse case and since she was a DCP they let her go. But, this was back before they had fancy automated systems to tell you whether or not you're needed.
ETA: DH just texted me back. Phones are allowed while you're waiting to be called. If he doesn't get called, they're dismissed at 5. However, he didn't have to be there until 2, so maybe there's 2 groups? - if you have to go in the morning and you're not called maybe you get dismissed earlier?
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
I think the rules are different with each county. Here's a link to MoCo FAQ site http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/cictmpl.asp?url=/Content/CircuitCourt/Jurors/index.asp#Guide
It's for those actually ON jury duty but some info may help.
Thanks for asking. I have to go in the morning, so hopefully they'll figure out my status earlier in the day.
