Where did you buy your mattress?

DH and I are in the market for a new mattress.  Where did you buy yours?  Does anyone recommend a particular brand?  A particular time of the year to buy a new mattress?

TIA

Re: Where did you buy your mattress?

  • We bought ours at Sleepy's.

As far as a time of year to buy--mattresses are always negotiable.

  • I bought ours before DH and I were together... it came from Mattress Giant.  If I was in the market now, I would check Sams Club/Costco, etc and I would also check a small company near us that is local called Hostlers.

  • such a pain - I hate mattress shopping.

you can buy them almost anywhere but its so hard to comparison shop since they all have different names at different stores.  I'd probably skip a mattress store and get one from Sears or Macys

  • Sam's Club when we bought our house in 2007.  I'm ready for a new one.  It was amazing at the time, but now I want something different.  I can't remember the brand.  Serta maybe?

  • We went through this earlier this year.  We were this close to buying one from BJ's...I think it was a Serta.  It got good reviews online but we couldn't test it so that was what made us not purchase it.  Ultimately, after a long, tedious search (about 2 months), we ended up getting a Sleep Number bed.  We had been dancing around the idea but neither of us wanted to spend that much on a bed.  After looking in places like Macy's and Ikea and Mattress Warehouse, we realized that for what we wanted, the price was going to be about the same.  We just so happened to flip on QVC during this whole shopping experience and saw that they had the Sleep Numbers with free shippingand the payments were spread out over 6 months (but weren't financed).  So, low and behold, that's what we got.

I know that people either love them or hate them...we're in the love group.  It's only been about 9 months since we got it and I have never had a better night's rest.  Because I have some back problems, I love that I can adjust the firmness daily.  And I really do climb in to bed every night and adjust the comfort!

  • I'm trying to remember the place we got ours at, I think it was Mattress discounters in Bel Air. I'll have to look at the brand tonight, but it's a queen pillow top. I know DH and I wish we had a King.

  • We bought ours at Sam's Club and I would definitely get one from them again. I can't remember the brand though.
  • We have purchased 2 mattresses in the last 4 years and it's a pain. We got our newest one from Mattress Warehouse. The salesman was a douche, but we got a good deal. We also checked out Sleepys (an even douchier salesman) but the deal at MW was better. We have a Simmons which we love. We also have a memory foam topper on it. We used to have a pillow-top Serta which we HATED and had to replace after 2 years. I strongly advise against getting a pillow top. They don't wear well, in my experience.

  • We went through this recently as well. It is a pain because it is hard to compare different companies brands. We went to many stores in the area to look, Sleepy's, Mattress Giant, Discounters, Warehouse, and Costco. I would have bought from Costco because I love their studff, but am just so leary about buying a mattress without trying it out first. Unforutnately, you just have to go try out mattress and find which works best for you.

We ended up buying a Simmons Beautyrest at Mattress Warehouse and got a great deal on it. It is very comfy and we have been very happy It is my second Simmons and I will probably buy another in the future. Be careful with Sertas. As PPs have noted, there have been many complaints about their products. I have at least 3 friends that have had to have their Serta replaced after only 2-3 years. Also, be sure to buy a good mattress protector. If you do have to file a warranty claim, no company will honor the warranty if the mattress has any stains. Good luck!
