Serial Snoozer, with POLL

I was just updating my profile on sparkpeople because I need to seriously start working on getting back into my healthy lifestyle. I lost 45 lbs over the last 2.5 years......but since the wedding (2 mo ago), I am embarrassed to say that I have gained 30 of those pounds back! Ick! When I "fall off the wagon", my body gains weight SOOO fast! Crying ....it's seriously depressing that I am basically back at square one, where I was 2.5 years ago!

Anyway, lets get to the point. One of the fast goals on spark people was to stop hitting snooze in the morning. I made that one of my goals. I am a serial snoozer......like, I will hit snooze for upwards of one hour or more! I've tried the whole, move the alarm to the other side of the room thing, but I still hit the buttom and go back to sleep for 9 minutes.

This is relative to my health goals because pretty soon, once school starts on Monday, I am going to have zero free time, and I would really like to be able to wake up early and get in at least a 30min workout before work.....but it's impossible unless I break my snooze habit.

Does anyone have any recs for breaking it? ...........i think it's going to have to be good old fashioned just QUIT IT....but I am looking for other tricks.

oh, and here's a poll.

Re: Serial Snoozer, with POLL

  • I don't really use the snooze option, but DH is kinda like my personal snoozer alarm.  We get up at 5:30 most days, but DH gets up and showers, then comes back to re-wake me.  We hold ourselves accountable for getting up each morning, every now and then one of us will NOT want to wake up.

Can your H help you with getting up on time?

  • I'm sort of an SS ... I don't hit the snooze button in the morning. But if I ever take a nap ... oh, trying to wake up from a nap is such bad news. :(

I used to be a snoozer but I kicked the habit. It helps that W is now working downtown and has to wake up early as well.

I have one - it was given to me as a gag gift - but I've never used it. Though we tested it out and it jumped right off my night stand and went under my bed!

  • that alarm clock is pretty funny!

if I want to exercise in the morning, I have to have some outside motivation.  Recently my dad and I started meeting at 6am and it's a HUGE help - if I was going to just go do something alone, it's way harder. But if I know he's waiting for me, I pop right up.  Is there a friend who would meet you?  'Worst' case, maybe having an appointment with a personal trainer - there was a study showing that losing money is a great motivator to exercise!  My mom pays for pilates classes and she loses the money if she misses the class, so things like that help her go.

This does not work with H though - we just cancel each other out, lol

  • haven't voted yet..... i'm not *quite* as bad as you...but i hit the snooze about 3 or 4 times...which at 10 mins a snooze, that's 30-40 mins. h gets pissed at me because i don't wake up immediately to my alarm clocks, and he usually needs to nudge me. he says i ruin my own sleep (yes yes, it's true) since i interrupt it. but i just can't wake up w/o snoozing.

  • I'm one of those "When the alarm goes off, you get out of bed" type people. H will lay there for like 30 to 45 minutes and fall back asleep, but not hit the snooze button. He expects me to come back and wake him up. It's really annoying...
