Have you ever negotiated for more vacation/PTO than you were offered with a new job?
If so, were you successful?
That may be a make or break it deal for me with a potential new job and any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Re: Negotiating Time Off
I am in the same boat. I am currently at 4 weeks and the new job is only 2, with 3 weeks after 2 years :-(
I'm also losing 2 days of PTO due to no floating holidays at the new potential job.
I am planning to ask for an additional 1 week of vacation and see how it goes. It doesn't hurt to ask. I have a coworker who negotiated an extra week when he was employed, and another who "got" one via an informal arrangement with his boss.
I did twice.
For my previous job, they offered me 2 weeks vacation. I had 3 weeks at my then current employer. I asked for 3 weeks to maintain where I was at. They did not give me an extra week of vacation, but gave me "5 excused absences". So I could take the time and it was paid, but it wasn't possible to roll it over and when I left the company I was not paid out for it.
With current job, they offered 3 weeks, but I started in the middle of the year. I had taken no vacation thus far in the year and had 3 weeks worth of things planned in the back half of the year. I told them I had plans for 3 weeks worth of vacation and they granted it to me.
