Ugh... speaking of crime in town...

Ugh.  I just read another alert from Creston Neighbor.  Assoc.

This morning, 2 women were walking on Plainfield - a little north of Leonard - and were sexually assulted and robbed by 2 young men.  I know a few folks here live or work near there.  Alerts up, and be careful, friends.

Here's the police statement:

Criminal Sexual Assault/Robbery

A sexual assault and robbery occurred near Plainfield Av and Grove St NE, in the City of Grand Rapids on September 14th, 2011 around 1:30 AM. The two female victims were walking when they were approached on foot by two male suspects, who later sexually assaulted and robbed them in a nearby secluded area.

The suspects are described as a white male, 18 to 20 years old, 5'7", thin build with short sandy-brown hair, possibly missing some teeth. He was last seen wearing large "DJ" style headphones, a dark gray "puffy" jacket, and jeans.

The second suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 20 years old, 6'0", thin build and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a blue "puffy" jacket and a blue & red baseball cap.

The Grand Rapids Police Department Family Services Team is investigating.  Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call the Grand Rapids Police Department at 456-3604 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.  Silent Observer can also be contacted confidentially at

Education/Prevention Tips

CNA's main job is to continue to educate our neighbors so that they know how to react if the unthinkable were to occur.  It is important to know that this type of sexual assault in which the suspect and victim are strangers is very rare.  The following is a link to an article from the Ohio State University Newspaper, The Lantern, discussing prevention tips regarding this type of crime. Please click the following link to take a look,  and take the oppertunity to update yourself and neighbors in related prevention tips you find through research. http://tinyurl.com/3gtrjvu

  • I believe that happened yesterday morning, since it was on the news last night. But yeah - another bad thing to happen to an undeserving neighborhood.

ETA: Well, duh, it says the date right in the alert. *hits head*

  • Great tips in that link.  Thanks for posting.

ETA: This was one of the articles on Mlive this afternoon that prompted my post in the randoms.

Yeah... I guess I didn't read the release on the day I got it.
