BWLO: Dairy/Soy-free diet tips?

My sister has been doing so well with breastfeeding--I'm so proud of her! Little Landon was 4 lbs 12 oz when they left the hospital, and he's currently weighing in at 8 lbs 10 oz at 1.5 months! Yay!

Anyway, he's been having tummy issues on top of reflux, so now the pedi is having her eliminate dairy and soy from her diet. She went to the grocery store and became so frustrated and overwhelmed and is pretty much lost on what to do. She said she's "pretty much vegan" now...that's how lost she is.

I know there's a few girls on here who had to do similar so do you have any tips or websites that I can pass on to her?

TIA!

Re: BWLO: Dairy/Soy-free diet tips?

  • I follow a vegan diet periodically when I want to lose weight.  The problem is a lot of dairy substitutes contain soy or casein (a milk protein-- don't ask me.)

The best soy and dairy free substitute cheese in the world is Daiya brand.  When used "in" stuff, you can barely tell the difference.  Unlike most substitutes, it melts and stretches.  It's awesome in tacos, on soups, in lasagna, anything that's warm or has a sauce, but isn't as great on salads or cold sandwiches.

As for the milk issue, I like almond milk the best, and it's dairy and soy free.

The Cherrybrook Farms baking mixes are amazing and have no nuts, soy, gluten or dairy.

Coconut milk can be added to many dishes to create a creamy sauce.
