I have a serious cold-like blowing my nose every 5-10 minutes, coughing fits, you name it. I look bad and feel bad.
But I coach high school volleyball and we had a match tonight. We played this team last week and the coach seemed okay. Before the match, we are supposed to shake hands with the other coach and players (before warm ups and everything). I let her know that I am under the weather and didn't want to shake hands and spread germs. I fist bumped her girls. She seemed to understand.
The match was really close, like painfully close, and we won. She got increasingly negative and her girls were crying on the bench when the game ended. We go to shake hands after the game and I tell her good game and thank you but don't take her hand. She gives me a dirty look and says "really?" and turns around and walks off.
I didn't even high five my girls during the game. I had to excuse myself once for a coughing fit. I could not go wash my hands between every snotty tissue, and there were a lot of them. Maybe I'm wrong, but I felt bad touching anyone. In any other job, I would've stayed home today.
Thoughts??
Re: am I in the wrong here?
But seriously, I'm sure everyone else there was glad you were kind enough to not throw your cold germs at them. Hope you start feeling better ASAP!

No. You are definitely not in the wrong. You explained yourself in the beginning and did what is the most sanitary for all. Sounds like she's a poor sport.
Congrats on the win!
She's just being a sore loser.
Congrats on the win and I hope you get to feeling better soon!
