proactiv vent

I've been breaking out a bit on my cheeks and neck, and my usual face wash isn't helping.  I remembered that Proactiv worked really well for me in high school, so I picked up a trial size.

Well, apparently my skin has become more sensitive because my cheeks, chin, neck, etc, are all red/splotchy/hot.  The worst part is that I should know better--I should have tested for sensitivity to it, but I figured I never had a problem before so I wouldn't have a problem now.

The packaging says that if this sort of reaction develops, stop using it for a few days, then use it less frequently.  I had this reaction after only using it once!

They offer a money back guarantee if you're not happy with it for any reason.  I'm thinking I should just return it and try something less harsh...

I just hate having breakouts--I'm not a teenager anymore!

  • I am pretty sure that they changed the formula...  after Jennifer Love Hewitt jumped ship to hock their competitor suddenly there were "new and improved" proactiv commercials on tv.

I swear the new formula doesn't work.  I never had acne problems, but in college I began having breakouts on my chin from stress.  I tried Proactiv and it would wonderfully.  Once my face cleared up, I resumed using regular face wash.

Fast forward to a few years later and I began having breakouts again.  I immediately purchased Proactiv again, only to find out the new formula sucked and didn't work for my skin.

I am back to having breakouts on my chin which I attribute to stress at work.  Hate having breakouts, especially before a work event!

  • you know when you start acne medicine it initially is worse for a few weeks while all the bacteria that was trapped under the surface comes up and forms pimples.

My skin is pretty sensitive and when I use my Rx medicines, I will dab on a tiny, tiny bit before bed.  I've also been instructed to put on a little bit in the early evenings and then rinse your face off after an hour or two.

  • Proactive will def make break-ours worse before they get better. However, sounds like you are just sensitive to it like me. The redness and the rawness was painful. Excrutiating actually. I have been bouncing around using various products for a while now. I am loving the Lush Coalface bar and the dark angels scrub. Both contain charcoal which is very neutralizing. I picked up their tea tree toner and skin drink moisturizer and they are all great. Another line I liked was Mario badescu. Great products, though I felt I went through them too quickly. The silver powder is an amazing spot treatment though.

Glad to hear this.  I was at Ulta yesterday picking up a few travel size items for work travel this week and picked up the acne cleanser and toner (travel size) to try.
