I am thinking about doing this.

In short, it is a 7 ? 10 week scholarship program that sends students over seas to study a critical language. It would have advantages both career wise and on a personal level (it would just be awesome!).
BUT . . . .
I would miss Aiden like crazy. My mom said I would miss him so much that I would not be able to enjoy myself. H already said he would take Aiden for the summer if I made it into the program.
It sounds like such a wonderful (and rare) opportunity but I feel so torn!
Re: I am thinking about doing this.
Well, if you need to learn Punjabi or Urdu, this would be an ideal program.
If you are looking for an international program that's NOT a full semester, where you would be immersed in a different culture with a different language, you could consider one of the programs through St. Petersburg College.
It's high quality, not that expensive - and financial aid is available for these special opportunities, and since the average age at SPC is now 32, there are LOTS of parents who are traveling while their kids are back home, so this is totally common and doable:

Thanks for that link Kristin, I will check it out!
?
The point of the CL Scholarship would be to learn a new language and be able to apply the second language acquisition skills to help teach ESOL students in the classroom.?
I love my crazy child!

True, I don't think he would really remember the time apart too much. And how cool would the stories be that I would get to tell him? But I'm sure I would have lots of mommy guilt but at the same time I fell I have to apply and just see what happens. It just seems like too good of an opportunity to pass up. ?

This is also a good point. The fact that it could open opportunities for you career-wise in the future is worth the short-term sacrifice. It probably wasn't ideal that I took my kid and moved a thousand miles from my family when she was a baby, but I have a level of financial security and have been able to give her a better life than I could have otherwise. You are working hard to provide that for Aiden and any little thing that you can do to give you both a brighter future is worth the sacrifice.
Do it! Sounds like a fantastic opportunity. Are you planning to be an ESOL teacher? I was really close to going that direction myself, but it turns out I'm a terrible teacher. ;-) But I love the language part of it.
Do you have any idea what kind of internet access you'll have while you're abroad? It may depend on where you end up, but assuming you'd have full internet, you and Aiden could video chat frequently. My mom and Lily do this all the time.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
